Hi all! I reached out to ID Jewelry as they're somewhat local to me and I see they're recommended a lot on here. I'm honestly feeling a little pressured from them but I'm thinking it might just be the language barrier (especially since I've seen them raved about on PS). Please let me know what you think of these ovals. My head is honestly spinning and I'm feeling SO overwhelmed :(. Every jeweler says something different and for someone like me who is easily overwhelmed and slightly indecisive, this is not a fun process even though it should be! If anyone is interested, I will hire you to take the headache out of this for me LOL .

Also, these recommended from Adiamor. I've noticed on these that even though the carat weight is less than what I've been looking at, measurements are similar.

ID J are you working with Yuketiel (or someone else)?

1 - no, showing too much black through the center at certain angles (surprised they even recommended this one)
2 and 3 - ok, average, can find better

Adiamor
I personally think the 1.51 is your best option of these.
It has the widest area/spread of nice facets going through the center. The 1.5 is nice too but it does have a dark inclusion on the table
(ask if its eye-clean)
I find the 1.56 and the 1.7 to be average (in other words, can find better)

By nice facets this is what I'm talking about (this is the Adiamor 1.51 stone)

THis is your first ID stone that I'm surprised they suggest...It has a bow-tie IMO, it doesnt last a long period of time (the darkness) while it spins
, however it is very wide. I didnt manage to catch all of the darkness while it was spinning but even the smaller amount I caught was enough
to say hard pass on this stone.

@tyty333 I am working with someone else so I guess that was my first mistake. She told me all of those ovals were rare finds, great deals and would not last. She keeps pushing me to come in to look at them and it's just making me feel uncomfortable.

I told adiamor in my original message that I only wanted eye clean but I will double check.

Thanks again!

I would work with Yeukitiel (can't spell). Some of the others who work there are not great. I agree with @tyty333 that the first option from IDJ is a disaster. The 2nd and 3rd are "ok". And also agree that the adiamor 1.51 is the best of the choices.

I will call and speak with him just going to wait to hear back from Good Old Gold first. They're also fairly local to me so I'm hoping I find a winner there but the more I look at the 1.51 stone, the more I love it! My head is a slightly stuck on "bigger is better"... trying to let go of that.

I have had nothing but great experience with IDJ. But I have only worked with Yekutiel.

A few things I would say:

1. They work on a much thinner margin than most dealers out there and generally are very busy. So that means service is “light touch” and not white glove. So if you are working with them, you just need to know that. Having said, I personally find it a lot better to work with them than I do with someone like James Allen, Blue Nile or most other online retailers. Yekutiel has more diamond assessment tools than anyone I know of (Idealscope, ASET, Gemex, Sarin etc).

2. Every diamond dealer in the country has access to diamonds you see here because they are all listed on Rapnet. As a result diamond inventory changes very very rapidly. That can at times drive diamond dealers to ask their customers to make a decision, or otherwise they may be disappointed because the inventory has changed. From a consumer side this can feel like a pressure - diamond purchase is a big purchase for most of us and we want to do full due diligence before making a decision.

That makes a lot of sense and I appreciate you helping me to understand that insight. I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm feeling pressured on my own to make the "right" choice and feeling overwhelmed because I'm not an expert. But it's definitely not helping that she's telling me all these diamonds are great and exactly what I'm looking for when clearly, they are not lol :???:.

One other jeweler in NYC that I like is David S Diamonds.

I know nothing about ovals, but there is supposed to be a gem cutter who somehow eliminates bow ties?
I have seen it mentioned on ps sometimes.

Does she know that you are a Pricescope member?

Yes! This jeweler was mentioned in a previous thread I posted, thank you :)

I did not mention this to her, no. Should I?

Hi Glow18
I deeply apologize that you felt any pressure from any of my team members. We truly understand the importance of buying a Diamond. Especially looking to purchase the right Diamond. I am not known as being pushy. on the contrary I am a big supporter of taking your time, I always say if its not the right diamond.. Dont buy it. Ovals in general is a very tricky shape to buy with out viewing it and analyzing it with ASET, Ideal scope and viewing it in different lighting environments. Please feel free to reach out to me directly 212-921-9372 or you can watsapp me at 212-921-9372 if you can consider giving us another chance to make things right.
buying Diamonds should always be a happy memory that should last forever and that's my goal.

To my post above, I am a little concerned about the cavity. I always thought those were a no so I'm unsure and not educated enough to understand.

No, it doesnt really matter. I think it just gives them a heads up that you may be pickier than the average consumer. I'll use the
term Pricescope picky.:)

The most recent stone you posted looks pretty good. It looks to have a nice area through the center of good facets and as the stone
turns you can see more distinct, well-defined facets come in to view (vs mush which shows up as gray...where you cant see the outline
of facets).

Thank you!

The cavity is nothing to be concerned about?

Where is the GIA report? Did I miss it? I cant find it!:???::shock:

Can you post the link again, please!:cheeky:

Thank you @marrduk24 ! I didn’t realize it posted the link as a tiny pdf so that’s why you didn’t see it @tyty333

as always, greatly appreciate your opinion here. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say (again, as always!! Lol)

Just my $.02 but I have zero knowledge of ovals, even though my solitaire is an oval. Furthermore, I have zero knowledge of diamonds, even though they are my passion! But I can tell you this: as long as you are dealing with Yekutiel, then trust what he says. He has been my jeweler for quite a number of years. I have never met him. We only communicate either through email, text, or phone calls. Nevertheless, I trust what he says. Once he gets to know you and your style, he will know exactly what you will like or will not like. So, I would ask his opinion on the stone.

I tried to see the cavity on the stone but could not see it (somewhere on the back along the edge). So my general philosophy is that
if it were a round brilliant I would pass. There are plenty of RBs out there that are well cut and do not have cavities however, I give
fancy cut stones (like ovals) a break because it is hard to find nicely cut ovals (as well as some other fancy shapes).

Let's see if we can get @Karl_K 's thoughts on cavities in fancy cuts. Safe enough, too dangerous ???

FYI Here is a blow-up of the inclusion map...

Please keep in mind that all of the initial diamonds were being sold as "EXCELLENT" CUT. It is very true that they may have had EXCELLENT polish and symmetry, but those two grades alone do not equate to an overall "EXCELLENT" CUT GRADE. GIA does not grade the final cut quality of oval diamonds. Possibly, AGSL does grade a final cut on ovals now, but initially, it was not a part of the AGS system, either. AGSL does grade certain fancy shapes, but I am not sure they do an oval cut quality grade.

This is important because an oval cut diamond with a rather noticeable bow tie effect likely would not qualify as an EXCELLENT CUT. Such stones might be VERY GOOD or GOOD, but not at the top end of all ovals. Don't get tricked by the misuse of "Excellent Cut". It may not be intentional, but whatever it is, it isn't quite right.
