I tried to see the cavity on the stone but could not see it (somewhere on the back along the edge). So my general philosophy is that
if it were a round brilliant I would pass. There are plenty of RBs out there that are well cut and do not have cavities however, I give
fancy cut stones (like ovals) a break because it is hard to find nicely cut ovals (as well as some other fancy shapes).
Let's see if we can get @Karl_K 's thoughts on cavities in fancy cuts. Safe enough, too dangerous ???
FYI Here is a blow-up of the inclusion map...
Thank you!
This was sent to me by Yekutiel & I have it on hold for now. I'm hoping I will be able to go see it on Monday.
I asked him about the cavity and I believe he said that because the GIA has become stricter with their grading, they have started grading some indents as cavities? I could be completely wrong here so if that sounds unlikely or just plain wrong, I am sure I have it wrong lol.
My concern is because everything I seem to see about cavities isn't good, stating they could be weakened or prone to chipping, etc. I want this ring to hopefully someday be passed down and serve as a family heirloom .
