ID Jewelry / Adiamor & some new oval options

I tried to see the cavity on the stone but could not see it (somewhere on the back along the edge). So my general philosophy is that
if it were a round brilliant I would pass. There are plenty of RBs out there that are well cut and do not have cavities however, I give
fancy cut stones (like ovals) a break because it is hard to find nicely cut ovals (as well as some other fancy shapes).

Let's see if we can get @Karl_K 's thoughts on cavities in fancy cuts. Safe enough, too dangerous ???

FYI Here is a blow-up of the inclusion map...

Thank you!

This was sent to me by Yekutiel & I have it on hold for now. I'm hoping I will be able to go see it on Monday.

I asked him about the cavity and I believe he said that because the GIA has become stricter with their grading, they have started grading some indents as cavities? I could be completely wrong here so if that sounds unlikely or just plain wrong, I am sure I have it wrong lol.

My concern is because everything I seem to see about cavities isn't good, stating they could be weakened or prone to chipping, etc. I want this ring to hopefully someday be passed down and serve as a family heirloom .

Just my $.02 but I have zero knowledge of ovals, even though my solitaire is an oval. Furthermore, I have zero knowledge of diamonds, even though they are my passion! But I can tell you this: as long as you are dealing with Yekutiel, then trust what he says. He has been my jeweler for quite a number of years. I have never met him. We only communicate either through email, text, or phone calls. Nevertheless, I trust what he says. Once he gets to know you and your style, he will know exactly what you will like or will not like. So, I would ask his opinion on the stone.

Thank you! This stone is actually from Yekutiel :). I have it on hold and I'm hoping I'll be able to see it on Monday. I'm glad you speak highly of him and trust him, that is definitely a large positive factor in my mind!

Good luck! If he recommends this stone you are likely on the right track! Take pics and share back!!

Please keep in mind that all of the initial diamonds were being sold as "EXCELLENT" CUT. It is very true that they may have had EXCELLENT polish and symmetry, but those two grades alone do not equate to an overall "EXCELLENT" CUT GRADE. GIA does not grade the final cut quality of oval diamonds. Possibly, AGSL does grade a final cut on ovals now, but initially, it was not a part of the AGS system, either. AGSL does grade certain fancy shapes, but I am not sure they do an oval cut quality grade.

This is important because an oval cut diamond with a rather noticeable bow tie effect likely would not qualify as an EXCELLENT CUT. Such stones might be VERY GOOD or GOOD, but not at the top end of all ovals. Don't get tricked by the misuse of "Excellent Cut". It may not be intentional, but whatever it is, it isn't quite right.

@oldminer So good to get your input! Can we ask what your input is on cavities or is that outside of what you can say on PS?

Still hoping for @Karl_K to comment ton cavities in ovals too.

Are cavities a no-go (I know anyone would rather they not be there).
Could it depend on...
the location
the size

What about prong placement? Keep prongs away?

General info would be good!

Sorry if I missed something I have been having severe sinus headaches(common this time of your, not covid) and the meds make me loopy so have not been posting as much.

I do not like cavities much at all they get filled with gunk, they often have weak edges, they are often impossible to clean.
That said the right stone with a small cavity on the pavilion and not on the girdle or crown I would consider it.

I suffer from sinus headaches too, they are the worst! Hope you feel better soon.

Aw, darn! I think the cavity of this diamond is on the crown @tyty?? Wondering now if maybe I should keep looking and see if Yekuitel can find something without a cavity for me.

They are on the pavilion @glow18 (looks like there are two). May be too close to the girdle to be considered safe?

Are you going to see this stone or still trying to decide?

@tyty333 I was going to go see the stone on Monday hopefully but if there is nothing else for me to look at, I will probably wait. I’ll message him tomorrow and get further clarification on the cavity and then decide. I’m not far from NYC but it’s a hassle to make multiple trips. I would rather go when I felt certain the “right” stone was waiting for me. Feeling kinda bummed now

Just realized I read your initial message wrong! I'm relieved it's on the pavilion... now I understand the diagram in the GIA report, duh me lol. Maybe this stone is worth checking out then  . Would love your input based on the diagram @Karl_K

It is hard to say without looking at it a diagram is just an approximation. Is there something super special about this stone that makes it worth a slight risk?

@Karl_K I don't think so other than I am just eager, it seems to have good facets for an oval, I like the dimensions and if the cavity really isn't something to be concerned about, I would rather just go for it.
