and my current diamond is 3.75, however the hexagon around it is 6.5 mm, will the 6.5mm stone look bigger to me or the same asjust looking at my ring with the hexagon?

um yes!!! It's almost double the size.

It is 300% bigger.

Even when comparing your current stone + setting to a larger stone of the same diameter as your setting, the larger stone will definitely look larger for the pure fact that it'll have a lot more sparkle than the 3.75+hexagon bezel setting.

It will look much bigger!

The diamond will look bigger but the finger coverage will be the same. It will be much more sparkly, though. You could put the 6.5mm in a bezel that adds a bit of coverage, or maybe even find a hexagonal setting to fit it so you'd keep the same look but just a lot bigger.

Bottom line: It's going to look a lot bigger.

Geometrically: the change in area is going from 44 to 132, so that's triple the area, like Julie said.

Visually here's what it looks like. The stone on the right in the stone holder is the whatever stone they give you in the idealscope kit and measures about 6.3mm. The OEC stone in the buttercup earring measures about 3.75 in a 4mm buttercup setting that measures about 5mm at the bottom of the buttercup. Sorry for the dreary pic; it's really overcast today and drizzley.

Wow, that IS a big size jump! Thanks for sharing that visual Bastetcat.

Thank you for the visual bastecat!! That helped alot. I was just putting 6.5 mm on my finger, saw it was about the size of my current hexagon, which is what made me wonder if I would see enough difference between a stone in a solitaire vs my hexagon being the same size already
The 6.5 wouldn't be a diamond, it would be a ruby solitaire in an antique setting that I can wear somedays with my bands instead of my current ring until I find out what my perfect size stone is/save up for it.

I can totally understand that. I think it would be pretty and a nice alternative while you save up for your dream stone. :)

(I messed up my calculations anyway and didn't think until too late, but the proportional increase is the same. Its been a LONG week with way too little sleep!)

I learn a little more everyday as far as what my dream stone will be, just a matter of figuring out the size of a forever stone that won't lead to DSS!! I agree it will be a nice alternative, as the antique setting the ruby is in is beautiful.

post pics when you get it! :naughty:

But of course!
Im going back and forth between a 6.5mm ruby or a 6mm garnet at current time.....
