Holy cow, even on a 5 carat honker I love how that halo looks, and it does make a difference in how big the stone seems to me! Gorgeous. I''d take that halo ring for sure!

Yowza!!!!! More pics please!!!

I agree with those who think a halo is too much for a beautiful big honker...

Here''s KristyDarling''s ring.....3.5 something cts center....I think it just can''t get any better than this!!!!!

I agree...Kristy''s ring is probably one of the most stunning rings on the site, or anywhere, for that matter! I love it and it is so timeless and elegant!

Widget, which other thread? (yes I am nosy!!!)

~~I loooove Kristy''s ring, and if I had a 3 ct. round, that is the way I would set it. Either pears or baguettes...

~BTW Lvnut, do you have any more pics of your round w/ baguettes???

LVNut -- those rings are incredible!!! I''d love to hear some specs on those! But I''m a little confused...you currently own a 4+carat stone but are trading it in for a 5carat with a halo? Or do you own one of those two 5carat rings already? Sorry if I''m being dense!

GORGEOUS

The baquettes are beautiful, but I''m partial to halos

Am I a total spastic? How does the larger one look so much smaller? I get that halos make a stone look larger...but still, if you look just at the stone in the center it makes no sense! But, that said, they are both gorgeous and I cannot imagine you could go wrong with any of this...

Ah! Lvnut I just read your posts a little more closely and THINK I understand now. You are keeping your 4carat stone but putting it in a halo. You have pictures of two 5 carat diamonds, one with a halo and one without, so that you could show your hubby what a big difference a halo can make. (and thus means you won''t have to upgrade your stone) Have I got that right?

Hi Everyone

KristyDarling - yes you''ve got it all figured out! I have a 4.19 that is currently in a very large setting with invisbly set princess cut diamonds. I was worried that putting it in a "smaller" setting would make it look less substantial than I am used to - but last winter I decided I really wanted a larger diamond.

After checking into the pricing the size I want is, unfortunately, not in the budget! So I started wondering if putting it in a halo mounting would make my stone look larger. It took me awhile to find a larger stone in a halo, but a couple a months ago I found this setting. I was worried that since my stone is a little bit smaller the look wouldn''t be as big. But my stone is only 1/2 mm. smaller than the 5 ct. in the halo - so I think I should be okay!

My husband was unable to go with me so I took a few comparison shots and I am really amazed at how much larger the diamond looks with a halo. When I originally saw this ring, I thought the center stone was 7 carats, and I''m not usually bad at guessing the size of center stones!

I am really excited about this and I have all of the people on Pricescope who have posted their pictures to thank for helping me make this decision! I had my diamond taken out of its setting last Friday - my new ring should be done in about three weeks. I will be sure to post pictures when it is done - although I can''t believe how hard it was for me to figure out how to post the pictures that I did earlier!

If I have made any typos or made anything confusing - please forgive me - I just got back from dinner with my husband and had a couple of glasses of wine!

Hi Diamond Fan!

I just realized I didn''t answer your question about the halo - you''ve got it right the diamond without the halo is actually the bigger stone (by weight and by millimeters). It totally shocks me how much bigger the halo makes the stone look. I am so excited to get my stone back - I hope I love it as much as I did the 5 ct. with the halo!

Don''t you have that gorgeous 9 carat emerald cut with baguettes? I am envious! It is gorgeous beyond belief! If my stone was 9 carats I definitely would''nt need a halo!

Oh be still my beating heart!!!! Those two rings lvnut!! OMG!!!!!

LVnut- OMG, I love the halo. It looks just like the setting that I found on engagementringsdirect.com in the designer collection. By the way, their settings are quite reasonable.

DiamondQuest - I''ll have to check that site out. There are so many variations on the halo setting it''s enough to make you crazy trying to pick one! But when I tried that 5 ct. with the halo I knew that was the one for me. With any luck my ring will be done by June 16th - just in time for my anniversary!

I''ll post pictures when I get it. Unfortunately, as you saw earlier, I''m not very good at posting pictures, but hopefully I''ll get the hang of it!

Did you pick a diamond yet?

LVnt- I can''t wait to see pics of your new ring! So excited for you. WOW, 5 carats. What is your ring size if you don''t mind me asking? I have not picked out a stone because I am still waiting for James Allen to look at my certs and get back to me. Going to my B&M this weekend to see what new settings they have. I''m feeling a little frustrated

.

DiamondQuest - I will definitely post pics - but my stone is 4.19 carats - the 5.01 carat in the picture was at the jewelry store. I actually have some other pictures that I took comparing my ring to the halo since it is such a different look for me but I know you are really only interested in the halo pics. My finger size is 3 - but as you can see I have very long fingers and am able to wear large rings! Not sure if that''s a good thing or not!

What state are you in? The store that I found this setting had a lot of halo rings - different varieties (some with bezels, some without, some with three sided pave - some rounded and some with milgraining) with different shaped diamonds and also quite a few with yellow diamonds as the center. It really helped me make my decision.

I noticed earlier you were thinking about getting pink diamonds in the halo and I just wanted to give you an opinion on that. For my birthday a couple of years ago, my husband bought me a heart shaped diamond pendant with a pink diamond halo which is then surrounded by another halo with white diamonds. While it is very pretty (and I helped pick it out!) I find it don''t wear it as much because I feel like I have to have pink or just black or white on when I wear it.

That just reminded me that when I dropped my diamond off last week at the jewelry store, they actually had a 4 carat round with a pink diamond halo. It was very pretty, but I prefer the look of all white - it''s really just a matter of personal preference.

okay WOW a 4c+ and shrinkage still sets in???? that doesn't bode well for us upgrade crazies!!

that 5c i tried on at WF was A BOULDER. literally. it covered almost my whole finger and i have a size 6, not a size 3! i can't even imagine daily wear of that ring. much less with a halo!!
23.gif

Mara - It''s taken awhile for shrinkage to set in - but I have had this stone for almost nine years. I''m fine until I try something bigger on then I get a bad case of wanting to upgrade...but the prices are crazy these days!

Congrats on your beautiful new ring! I wish I had your wonderful photography techniques - your pictures are amazing and very creative!

woops it''s just a 4 carat rock. lol. Just found these settings at solomon brothers. I live in atlanta and have been there. I think over priced. This is a real beauty.

Another. Oh, this is a 5 carat total setting for only 25,000. Center diamond not included. It is major fine.

I was just checking out the engagementringsdirect website - are you sure those prices include the diamonds? I know that sounds crazy, but when I was originally given the quote for my setting I was shocked at how affordable it was. Then the jeweler realized something didn't sound right - so they called and found out the manufacturer thought the jeweler was supplying the mellee - obviously the price went up after we figured that out. I knew it was too good to be true!

Edited to add - I saw that $25,000 setting on Amazon.com last week! Gorgeous but unbelievably overpriced...

No, I''m not sure? Seems like they would say if the diamonds were not included.

Michael Barin ??

DiamondQuest - I noticed the price on engagementringsdirect was close to what I was quoted for the platinum only. I also noticed they don''t give a carat weight for the mounting. I just went back there and on the home page for the Designer Collection it says:
"All custom ordered rings are final sales. Prices quoted are for mountings only unless otherwise indicated. Prices may vary due to the size of the center diamonds and cost of materials."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - but that is exactly what I went through last week!

Aaaahhh boy, do I feel silly!
23.gif
That''s ok. I know I am going to find something I adore. Just gotta keep lookin around.

Don''t feel silly - I didn''t notice it right away either! If you''re like me you were so busy to get to the rings you don''t really read the first page. I also noticed the price was virtually identical to what I was quoted for the mounting with no diamonds. I''m sure you''ll find the "right" setting soon!

If you don''t mind my asking - what size is your pear? I only ask because my original diamond was a 1.57 pear. We traded that in for the 4.19 round - sounds like we think alike!

The pear I am trading is 2 carats. I have been a total pear fan for quite some time. I just really want an H&A. As of this hour, still no word from James Allen.
