If you have a garage, do you park your car in it?

We have a 2 car garage and park 2 cars in the garage. DH's car stays in the driveway. Only 2 other neighbors with garages (they have a 3 car garage) park in their garage, everyone else just parks in their driveway and their garages are loaded with stuff. So if you have a garage, do you keep your car in the garage?

We have a 2 car garage but it's not attached. It's at the back of the driveway, through a gate. We park in the driveway or in the street, but I do store my Jetta in the garage during the winter.

We have an attached one car and a 2 3/4 garage in the back. I haven't parked in my garage (the front attached) since it got nice outside last Spring. It's so full of crap right now *someone* needs to clean/move/organize..and seeing as how it's now winter I'd like to park in it. I'm sick of warming the truck up for 15 minutes to take London to school. *His* garage in the back..I think of the 9 years we've lived here, all together one year he's been able to park both his vehicles in it, and possibly 2 years just one vehicle. It's so full of junk right now, I seriously can not get from the door to the other end of the garage without stepping over/around things, things are piled to the ceiling and you can't open the door all the way.

We have a two car and a one car. We're required to park in the garage.

We have a one car garage and we absolutely keep a car in it (usually DH's car). I never understood having so much stuff in your garage that you can't fit a car in - I love parking in the garage so much that I will always keep enough space for the cars in there.

Our garage used to be an outbuilding, I think probably stables. It's set back from the house at the end of a lane. It's a very tight turn into the garage and the doors are narrow. DH's little car goes in ok, but mine only fits if you pull in the mirrors, breathe in and exhibit nerves of steel...

My biggest problem with parking in the garage is that people park over the gate in front of it. Apparently, if you want to walk your dog along the coast here, you have to drive your dog directly to my house, park so as to obstruct the garage, then walk only the last 50 yards to the costal path. Ideally, you'd have the dog foul outside the gate too. :angryfire:

We have a two car detached garage and we park both of our cars in there all the time.

I think we may be the only ones in our neighborhood who can park cars in our garage. We have a huge attic, and I think most neighbors do too so I can't imagine how they've filled up their attics and garages!

We have a two car attached garage, and park both cars in there. After living my entire life without parking in a garage, it's such a treat! My parents also have a two car attached, and they haven't been able to park in there in years! Too many years of kids and their stuff taking over.

We have an attached 2 car garage. I started out parking in there, but as we moved more and more things over to the house, I have slowly been pushed out.

DH's drives an F250, so that will never fit in the garage, but as soon as we get everything against the walls, I will park my car in there. Hopefully this weekend!

On our street of about 30-40 houses, I would have to say it is about 60/40, favoring people parking in their driveway. With that said, I do know a few of the houses have children of driving age, so they park their cars in the garage, but their kids car is in the driveway.

We have two vehicles and a 1.5 car detached garage. We don't park in it for two reasons: it's located behind a gate on our narrow driveway making it a challenge to get a car past the gate to the garage and, second, when we bought the house we agreed that the garage would be DH's space - so it's becoming the house to his junk pile

My next door neighbor has 4 cars and a 2 car garage. All cars are outside. They constantly have to move cars to get out of the driveway (no overnight street parking allowed in my area). They have a huge shed where they keep their pool stuff and their tractor. But in their garage they have boxes piled to the ceiling and an unused washer and dryer and a leather sofa that has been in there for at least 5 years. They also have a vacation home so I don't know why the washer and dryer and sofa isn't used there.

We have a one car garage and we park our '71 MG Midget in it. We park my car outside in the driveway and DH's car in the guest spot.

We have a 2 1/2 car garage and both cars are in it every night.

We have a two car attached garage and three cars. My car and the newer SUV park inside the garage, DH usually parks outside, just for the convenience of not having to move cars in the mornings. We live on a busier street that is fairly narrow so we wouldn't park on the street.

I hate having junk in the garage or basement though, if I ever had enough stuff to fill the house AND the garage you can be sure I'd be hauling it off to Goodwill or throwing massive amounts of stuff away!

Fi and I own a duplex, and there's 3 detached garages (attached to each other, but not the house) They are VERY old, and the doors are like barn doors. We do not park in them, and they've become storage for every member of his family that wants to leave trash in them. We have barely enough room for my kayaks and out grill and patio furniture in the winter.

We have a 2.5 car detached garage and a 1-car parking pad. We have two cars, two motorcycles, and a trailer. Two cars and one motorcycle go in the garage, one motorcycle goes in the trailer which is on the parking pad.

With that said, our neighborhood doesn't allow overnight parking on the street, and we don't have a driveway, as our garage and parking pad are on the alley behind the house. So we need to use our garage to park. I'm not sure whether we'd park everything in the garage/parking pad if we weren't forced to.

An upside is that we collect less junk since we can't store it in the garage!

This is interesting--Penn (and anybody else in a single family home who has to park in a garage), who makes you park in the garage? Is it a town ordinance, homeowners association or some sort of community law? I never realized that parking in a garage could be mandatory.

We have a 2-car attached garage and park both vehicles in it. It's snowy here, so I love having an attached garage so that the cars are snow-free and relatively warm during the winter. We have a separate building on our property for the lawn mower and other lawn "stuff", plus we have a basement for all of our regular storage, so the garage stays fairly clutter-free.

If we ever get a third car, the plan is to build a detached garage for it.

Most of the people in our neighborhood part at least 1 or 2 cars on their driveways. I think it's because we don't have basements here.

No.

I feel terrible about collecting so much junk, but hey, at least I feel terrible.

We have an oversized two car garage with no room for a car! That's kinda sad but I blame DH and all of his tools, rider mower, building supplies, etc. Now that I think about it most of our neighbors leave one car out. I know my one has a HUGE SUV in a newer house and I guess the builder did not take larger cars into account, they physically can only fit one car in their "two car" garage. Most others have more than two cars.

ETA: Sabine made a good point, *most* of the houses in my neighborhood do not have basements (unless they are built into a hill) so garages are the best place for storage.

Our home association requires us to park our cars in the garage. I like parking my car inside but I would love the right to park it outside if I want.

We have an attached 2 car garage and we absolutely park in it! Its so nice not having to scrape ice and push snow off of your car when you leave in the morning!

ETA: We have a full basement so we have plenty of storage.

We have a one car attached garage, and we own two cars. This is a timely question because I just recently started parking in the garage again now that it's getting colder and because space is at premium in our community and we need to use the driveway as a parking space now. There is plenty of space to park in the garage but it seems to be easier to just park in the driveway and come into the house through the front door. We have to enter through the basement, fumble for a light switch when it's dark and then walk up stairs when we park in the garage and that can sometimes be a pain. Most of our neighbors with garages seem to park in them as well.

Ha I wish I could park in it!!! my hubby purchased a 1967 Camaro and is restoring it...so its in the garage and the rest of the garage is filled with his junk, including lawnmowers and a tractor...maybe one day lol

We have a one car garage and three cars. SO parks his R8 in there and the other two hang out outside. If I had a two car garage, I'd use it. There is nothing better than not having to clean off the snow off your car when the snowstorms happen!

Is that what that space is for? We have a split and 2 years ago we turned the attached 2 car into a family room. We built a 30x40 foot detached garage that I have not parked in since 2 weeks after we built it. I do not know what is in there, dh is a hoarder. :nono:

JD's hobbies require a lot of crap. He even built a little lean-to on the side of his back garage and yet.. Guess I should be happy he has hobbies and doesn't just sit around but..jeez why can't he have a hobby like..whatever I don't know, washing dishes or something? Why doesn't he find organizing and having things put away as exhilarating as I? I tell him he's messing w/my feng shui and it might cause him pain.

we have a one car attached garage. no cars in it :( it seems like everytime we get it cleaned out enough, something else ends up having to go in there. right now it's our old 50" rear projection tv. anybody have any idea what to do with that??

my cars in the driveway. DH doesn't drive (low vision) but he does have a scooter/moped for driving around the neighborhood; it should be in the gargage but right now is in the driveway too.
