If you have a garage, do you park your car in it?

Lulu, does your town have a transfer station or recycling center? The trash is collected in our town, but they won't collect appliances, furniture, TV's, etc. We can, however, take those things to the local recycling center. I just got rid of a TV and it was something like $10 to drop it off, but it was nice to get it out of our garage.

We have a detached one car garage and we just cleaned it out so we could fit one of our cars in there. We do store stuff in there as well. We made an agreement that one person gets to park in the garage until a snowstorm and then it's the other person's turn. The unlucky person has to park in the driveway.

No.

I blame the stupid planners who refused to allow me to build our garage attached to the dwelling and insisted it be set back from the house. Boo.

Edit: JenW, I hear you on the inconsiderate selfish parkers. Some people really suck.

2 car attached garage. I would love to park my car in there. Hubby wanted to turn it into a recording studio. It's nice to go and jam out there.

I just remembered that our HOA requires us to park one car in the garage and the other in the driveway (then a third in the parking spots around the units). It's a stupid rule mostly because parking isn't at a premium and there are plenty of other spots (we're an end unit, so it's particularly convenient for us). I don't want to park behind DH's car every day - if we carpooled we'd always have to take the one outside, and in other cases we'd have to swap the cars. Just a pain all around.

Good thing nobody follows the rule and nobody enforces it (despite the reminders in every letter they send out) ;)) Half the people don't park any car in their garage.

we have a 3 car garage, but we only park 2 cars inside + a lot of junks.

We have a 2 car garage, but neither of our vehicles are in it. DH stores his 'collectibles' (junk) in there. :angryfire:

We have a 2 car attached garage, and both cars are parked inside, but once our kids are older and driving, we're going to have to move. our HOA also has strict rules about parking outside

Growing up, our garage was so junky that there were never any vehicles parked in it, except for the truck that didn't run. When that truck was taken out, my dad kept his boat in there, and then junk replace the boat. And then my parents built a room in about 35 percent of the garage space. I hated that our garage was so junky. Anyway, my husband and I have a two car garage and keep both cars in it. I would like to always keep our cars in the garage (if we continue to have two car garages), but I realize that it's a lot easier for a young couple with a three bedroom house and no children to stay uncluttered than an older family with children.

I hate strict HOAs. I could never live in a neighborhood with a crazy one.

I have, and I haven't.... if you live where it snows it's nice. In ireland I parked it in there exclusively. At our last house we rented when I was there for 6 months I didn't, at our old farmhouse we had a 1 car garage and my husband parked in there but he had a convertible... there was no room in there for a minivan, it was tiny. At our house before that, sometimes we did and sometimes we didn't - after my mom died and we got all her crap, we didn't anymore lol Here in china we have a 1 car garage but we don't use it because it's a bit of a pita, driveway is very narrow.

We have a 4 car garage and sometimes we park two cars in it. We have a lot of stuff, but it is mostly along the perimeter
in cupboards. We usually have two cars in the drive and one on the street. Big family, lots of cars, too much stuff. Mostly I just like
the open feeling of the garage and only one car in it makes it easier to get in and out of it. The neighborhood kids like to hang
out with my son in the garage too.

If I did have a garage, I would part my car in it. No doubt. It's not good for cars to be in the rain and weather.

We have a 3 car garage and have 4 cars, 6 when the kids are home. The oldest car gets the driveway! Our community
association does not allow parking in the street at all. Our garage is packed with H's stuff but it's organized in cabinets.
He also has a Harley parked behind his Jeep. And 2 kayaks on the walls!!

We have a two car garage, cars are parked in the driveway. The garage is holding stuff from the basement, which recently underwent foundation repair. It's a drag when it snows, however I now adore looking at my completely empty basement!

We park both our cars in the garage. I like when I hop in my car in the winter that it isn't too cold and it warms up quick. We had a rental without a garage so I would freeze in the winter in my car.

we do now!

we have a 2-car garage that has has been a storage shed for 7 years now. i got a newish used car in july and told hubby it needed to be garaged. he got it cleared out and storage shelving made, a storage shed set up outside all done before we left for AU the beginning of november. the shelving is so solid i think the garage will fall before the shelving falls apart! however, there are still things where a 2nd car could be parked and he's going to get that cleared out as soon as he gets another storage shed set up.

after years of not garaging a car, i can honestly say how much i appreciate having the use of the garage as a garage.

I'm with you!!! No garage in Connecticut! And it's cold here!!! I hate scraping the ice off the windshield and digging the car out of snow and warming it up! But I'm living at my father's house-the house in which I grew up-and it's strictly no frills! After our first condo when I was married (no garage then), we always had a garage. I got very spoiled. We always used it. It never occurred to me to put anything into it that would make it impossible to use it for for our cars! It was such a luxury!!! I wish I had a garage again now...if I go back to our house in Virginia, I will! And there will be room for my car in it!!!

We have a two car garage, and we are (mostly) able to park both our cars in there. While we don't have a basement, we only moved into the home in May, so haven't had the time to accumulate too much stuff here...yet! ;) When we first moved in, we weren't able to park in it due to still having lots of unpacked boxes hanging around. DH didn't like that much, so one very hot day this summer we dragged everything out and got organized.

However...my parents have a two car garage and have never parked in it. I think the last time my Mom was able to park in the garage was two houses ago. The garage functions as my Dad's workshop and storage. And since he is doing work as a custom cabinet maker, at least they are making money off not being able to park in it!

I live in a very busy part of town with little to no street parking, so yes, we park in our garage spot.

DH's drives an F250, so that will never fit in the garage, but as soon as we get everything against the walls, I will park my car in there. Hopefully this weekend!

I just wanted to point out, that after staying at my IL's for the night, and my DH staying back to do yard-work all day...

I pulled into our driveway, raised the garage door, and noticed a PERFECTLY organized garage, and plenty of space for my car! The temp is supposed to really drop tonight, so it was just in time.

thanks for the suggestion NEL. our trash service doesn't take appliances, furniture, tvs, etc either. we do have a recycle center but i don't think they take electronics but i will double check now. yes, at this point i'd be willing to pay to get rid of the huge thing.

Yes.

We have a 3 car garage and all the cars are parked in it, except maybe one throughout the day if someone knows they're coming in and out. Its sort of courtesy in our neighborhood, to park your cars inside your garage. Looks cleaner/neaters, makes it easier for kids to play and for people to walk or run on the sidewalks.
