We are desperatly slow at work and I have been looking at celeb wedding/erings all afternoon. I noticed most common celeb carat sizes range from 3ct to 5ct then of course you always have those with the HUGE rings. Now i''ve noticed a lot of people on here have larger ct rings anyway so my question is if you and your fiancee/hubby/wife somehow became rich would you upgrade your ring? If so how large would you go with no money issues holding you back?

I will always be sentimental about my engagement ring, so I would never "upgrade" it. That said....if we won the lottery, I might buy myself another fun ring to wear sometimes

I think maybe 2.5 ct is the largest I would ever be able to feel comfortable with...and I''d probably wear it very rarely. I think I would be more likely to buy really excessive earrings or a necklace or something instead. Don''t know why!

I''m with Albi. *disclaimer* I say this now...I would never ''upgrade'' my e-ring...I love it. However, if we had won the lottery before he purchased the center stone, I''d probably like a stone between 1.5 & 2 cts.

I agree with albi that I would never change my e-ring. I would simply make it my right hand ring and maybe get a 3 ct. I am not sure I could go much larger than that with my small hands. What a fun thing to dream about!

I guess that depends on what you consider to be rich? I would never want more then 2cts, I just dont feel comfertable with anything bigger then that. It is just about what you enjoy.

Hmmm... Well, with the deeper cut stones, I'd probably go to about 4 ct.

For a RB, I would go to 3 ct.

I never thought I would like big stones on me until I tried on (for fun) a 2.68 ct RB and I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooved it. Even my fiance, who is not into big stones, was like "WOW, that looks really good!". LOL.

A girl can dream.

Yep, I could never see myself trading in my e-ring, but I could see buying another diamond ring (or two

) if I had my way. Hey, it''s for the grandkids, right?!?!? Family heirlooms, yo.

I wouldn''t go higher than a 3 carat (maybe a cushion or emerald cut) since I only have a size 4 finger (more like 3.75).

2-2.5 ct. No larger.

4 or 5 carats, pear or rb probably. Jada Pinkett Smith has a 7 ct pear...talk about ice!

If we become rich (which, in New York, I classify as a salary/joint salary greater than $500,000 per year) I wouldn''t trade in my original e-ring, but I would like a 2.5 carat asscher with sidestones that is D/E and no less than VS2.

I''m also sentimental about my engagement ring and would not upgrade it until at least our 25th anniversary (when I have at least earned an upgrade! And only if my husband would like to upgrade it for me. If he does, I would really just like another ring and keep my original as a RHR or something).

I would probably buy another piece of diamond jewelry larger than the ones I have, but not to the point of gaudy. Maybe 2-3 carats? I wouldn''t know unless I actually looked.

I would love a 3 ct assher cut diamond in a Leon Merge setting. The largest I go in real life is 2 ct (that will pass from mom to me one day).

I wouldn''t upgrade my ering either. I would want a second ring or something else depending on my mood (maybe a 2ct nose stud hahaha). Hmmm, as I had never tried anything on my fingers (DH did all the ering shopping all by himself), I say I would want something between 3 - 5 ct. Of course I would have to see how it actually looks for my finger, but that seems like a good number.

I will never ''upgrade'' my ring. There is too much love and emotion poured into it.

I wouldn''t mind getting a 2.5ct Asscher in the future. But nothing bigger than that. I LOVE big stones, but not for actual daily wear. (...Or I''d love a 1.5ct emerald cut blue diamond.)

Most of my friends have 2.5ct + rings. Some are scared to wear their rings on a daily basis. Which I personally think misses the point of having one.

I did see a phenomenal HUGE (20+ cts) emerald cut at Cartier this past weekend. I told my husband I''d put that in a safe, only to play with it around the house. ;-)

I would keep my current set, but probably would get a few more, maybe one set for each day of the week! LOL

I would probably upgrade my round in my current set to 2.5 or 3 carats max. I dont like rounds on my hand in larger sizes.

Now for fancies, 4-5 carats is ok. I would probably want a princess cut with princess channel side stones, a HUGE shared prong set with a RB, and some kind of antique asscher cut set.

If I were to suddenly become rich though, I would first pay off my student loans, upgrade my 7 year old car and get a nose job. THEN we''d talk diamonds...:)

I'd get a 3 carat H&A from WF and put it in a MM setting. Yummm. But already upgraded ( same ring bigger stones) so this would be my extra LHR.

The biggest I think I could ever wear on my finger as a solitaire is 1.5 and right now I think that''s really weird and gaudy looking on my hand. As far as future plans...Ryan and I intend to make my ring a 3 stone in the future...two stones about .86 on the sides and whatever looks good in the middle. So...when we are REALLY rich thatll be the ticket. So I don''t think any of you will ever see that.

I hate the use of the word, "upgrade" as it relates to an engagement ring. I can accept a "stone upgrade", but not the idea of an "engagement ring" upgrade. I am thinking of this because so many other women said in this thread that they would never get rid of their real engagement rings. I would never get rid of my original engagement ring, either!

Now if I were wealthy, I might buy a new ring! I tried wearing a 2.10 carat diamond on my finger and felt it was way too big for me, so I had it made into a pendant. The solitaire I wear on my left hand is currently a 1.67 carat stone. (BTW, I would keep that one, too!)

I think I would start with quality. I would get an exceptionally well-cut (maybe an Eightstar) D, flawless round brilliant stone and have it set in a style I absolutely loved. I am not sure about size. I feel pretty sure that I could now live with a 2.5 carat stone. I''d have to see stones on my finger befoe I decided if I wanted to go any larger!

Alternatively I would get a Mogok ruby that had had no heat treatment, had some silk, and was stoplight red.

i''m not greedy

....i''ll take a well cut 2.5ct rb F VS1 on a plat ring.

Okay, I would get these. 8 ct total weight.

Ummmm I would want a 6 carat pink diamond asscher with a split shank in white diamonds set in gorgeous 18 kt gold. YUM YUM! OH and I want a 5 carat princess as well....oh, and a 6 carat cushion....but I would never get rid of my original ring!

kaleigh if you were rich can I have your asscher????

LOL If I were rich I''d still keep my original e-ring but I''d want a nice tennis bracelet! Okok and maybe a 3.5 ct Harry Winston too in you guessed it an asscher
30.gif
...I''d wear my e-ring as a RHR hehe!

If I was rich, like a net worth of 10 to 20 million dollars, I would be happy with a 3.75 carat cushion. It would have to be an F color and minimum VS1 clarity and in a custom Daniel K split shank setting with the split claw prongs. OH, and I would want a 7 carat cushion cut eternity band for my right hand. OH, and I would also want a 4 carat Burmese/Ceylon unheated certified oval Sapphire with bullet diamond sides in a custom Leon Mege setting and last but not least, 2.5 carat total weight diamond studs in claw prong settings, oh, and one more thing, a 7 carat diamond tennis bracelet and I forgot just one more thing, a 2 carat pear shaped F color VS1 clarity diamond pendant and I also forgot to add a few Hermes Kelly bags, basic black, a red one a blue one and some wierd fun colored one and a few Chanel bags and.........

I find it interesting that most of the ladies saying they will never upgrade their original e-ring are only recently engaged or newly married. i thought that to 6 years ago when hubby proposed. I even found PS looking for a new setting but had no intentions of ever getting rid of the stone. Fastforward to the present and I no longer even have my original stone and am upgrading my whole wedding set. I still have my original setting though. If hubby suddenly won the lotto I''d probaby go for a slightly bigger stone for my upgrade, closer to a 2 carat cushion but would still want the same setting i''m planning on getting.

I like the idea of one for each day of the week. How about a differant color diamond for each day. Monday-blue diamond, Tuesday-canary, Wednesday-pink, Thursday-red, Friday-champagne, Saturday-black, Sunday-purple

I also wonder if one''s idea of the "dream carat weight" might increase with age. I''m one of those people who think larger stones look less garish on older hands..

I also wonder if the insanely expensive rocks you see sold at Sotheby''s, etc are actually worn by their new owners. I suspect a lot of them are viewed as investments or assets that live in bank safety deposit boxes and rarely see the light of day....

I would have absolutely no problem upgrading from my 1.5 to a 3 carat RB. I had size issues the moment I really examined my e-ring the night I got engaged. (Not that I have ever said anything to my husband! And never would!) I know, I am a horrible, small, mean and greedy person and it makes me feel bad every time I think about it. But I love big, chunky jewelry and I am 5''10", so I feel like a larger stone really looks better on my hand.

Yes, I was engaged only in April, but my entire family is that way. Nobody has actually "upgraded." My mother received a wonderful 2.5 carat 1920s platinum ring for her 25th wedding anniversary, but she still has her original e-ring (0.10 carats!). My family is very sentimental, some almost to the point that you would call them packrats. I really wanted my mother's engagement ring when I was to be engaged, but it was WAY too small (I'm a 4.5 and she's a 1 or 2), and my fiance wanted to get me a ring of his choice to represent his love for me (there's that sentimental thing again). I think I will still say the same thing 10 years from now. I will not upgrade. Oh, the picture is of my little dog with my mom's ring.

Also, I'm 5'9.5" and a I think a 0.75 looks huge on my hands!

After being robbed twice in 6 months many years ago I learned not to get too attached to material things. Enjoy them while you have them because you''re not taking them with you in the end. With that said, bring on the upgrade. My goodness I''m not the same person I was 19 years ago and I would like my e-ring to evlove with me.

In the beginning a nice 1 ct would do nicely. Today my ideal size is 3-4 ct and I''m 5''4'' and 105 lbs. I would have no problem wearing that size everyday and my ring size is 4. I keep trying on 2 ct solitaires and they look small to me. I would have to put a 2 ct in a larger setting to be happy with it at this point. So yes indeed I''m all for upgrades.

Need I say more?
