I went hog wild with the photo taking... so there will be PLENTY of pictures!
But first, the proposal story:
My FI and I have been dating for 5 years, and we had talked about possibly getting married many, many times, but not too seriously. When I got to a point where I was really serious about getting engaged, I searched and searched and searched and finally came up with a great design for my PERFECT engagement ring. I then left this design on the seat of FI''s truck, on his computer, taped to his front door - anywhere I could put it, I did. We never talked about it, but I knew he had gotten the photos, and that was that.
So I waited and waited and no proposal. Then I read over in LIW about a recipe for chicken that''s supposed to inspire a proposal out of your significant other within three months. It''s called Engagement Chicken, and it''s worked for AT LEAST 21 different people. I also came across a recipe for Rachael Ray''s "You Won''t Be Single For Long" Vodka Cream Pasta.
So Saturday, April 25th was FI''s birthday, and since I''m a poor college student, I decided that I would just buy him the digital camera he wanted and cook him dinner. I''ve never cooked a thing in my life (save for some toast which I regularly burn...), so I was pretty nervous about it. Anyway, I told my mom and my sister about the recipe and about how it''s supposed to be "charmed," and they said go for it.
So FI came over the morning of his birthday, and I had him all set up with his video games, etc. in the living room to occupy him while I cooked. I ran around like crazy, getting balloons, setting the formal dinner table, buying roses for the table, lighting candles, and, of course, cooking dinner. He was NOT allowed in the kitchen at all (because I didn''t want him to see the name of the dish on my recipe), so I spent a lot of the evening kicking him out.
To my utmost surprise, the dinner came out PERFECT! I set the food out on our beautiful table, and FI and I and the rest of my immediate family (mom, brothers, sister in law) ate. FI raved about the food and said how good it was, but a little while after he opened presents (before cake) he began to feel sick. He said he just needed to lay down and he went back to my room to lay down on the couch. He kept asking me to go back with him and take care of him, but I put him off because I was busy putting the candles on his cake. Finally, I went back there. I said "HOW exactly do you feel? What hurts?" and he said "Nothing hurts, I just feel a little funny... like I have this urge to - " And I interrupted him with "urge to what??? throw up? oh my God, are you going to throw up?" And he said "No... I just have this urge to... to tell you that you''re my sunshine. That I love you more than anything in the whole world. That you''re so beautiful and that I can''t wait to spend every day of the rest of my life with you." And he continued on with more of the like. Then he said "And I said all of that just to ask you this..." and he got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of his pocket and held it up and asked "Will you marry me?"
I was completely taken aback. A said "Oh my God, are you serious? ARE YOU SERIOUS? You''re not joking are you? That would be SO MEAN! Is this for real? Oh my God!" And after I got over the initial anger of him playing this terrible joke on me and realized that he wasn''t kidding, I (the girl who said she''d NEVER cry over a proposal) just absolutely bawled! Then, FI says, "So, I guess the Engagement Chicken worked, huh?!"
Evidently, my mom and sister had told him about my plans and he factored the chicken into his proposal!
I just so happened to have had my promise ring off from when I was cooking, so he slipped the ring right on and we went back out into the living room to see the family. Everyone cried and laughed, and my grandparents came over for champagne. Then, of course, we used his brand new camera to take some photos of the ring. The proposal was PERFECT and SO "us." I never wanted a huge proposal, but I wanted us to be alone when he did it, and at the same time, have my family close by. He pulled it off! It was incredible!!!
Here are the specs on the diamond:
1.54 carat Round Brilliant, H&A (with 2 point pear surprise diamonds)
cut grade: AGS Ideal 0
color grade: AGS 2.0 H
clarity grade: AGS 4, VS2 (cloud inclusions only - 100% eyeclean!)
fluorescence: negligible
light performance: 0
proportion factors: 0
finish: 0
polish: Ideal
symmetry: Ideal
ring size: 6.5
The ring is a white gold, rb solitaire with 4 double claw prongs and two point pear surprise diamonds on either side. On the other two sides are small metal supports which appear to form a heart with the prongs on the sides (the heart part was unintentional - but still very beautiful!)
So, without further ado, the PHOTOS:
