Hello Ladies!
Many thanks for the birthday wishes and engagement congratulations on my previous thread. My FIANCE!!! totally surprised me on Wednesday night...he said that he has never seen me so surprised.
The Proposal:
Wednesday evening we originally had plans for a casual date night at our favorite BYOB restaurant. He calls me and tells me he had a terrible day at work and that the check engine light came on in his car. So he asks if I minded picking him up for dinner. Well I have been making fudge like crazy for people at work for their Christmas goodies, and have some left over so I grab a baggie to take to him to cheer him up.
When I get there he opens the door and is wearing a suit and out of the corner of my eye I can see candles and red roses...I am thinking to myself I think this is happening right now, I think he is proposing...Then my second thought is ...he''s wearing a suit and I''m wearing jeans and a pony tail, one of us is going to have to change clothes. Meanwhile I have the fudge in my hand wanting to hand it to him, but am thinking to myself that I need to wait.
He looks at me and starts to say all these sweet things that neither of us can remember and then, he gets down on one knee pulls out the ring and asks me to marry him. I stare at the ring like a deer caught in headlights and then realize that I need to answer his question. I look at him and say "Oh my gosh! Yes!!!" and start kissing him. Then I can''t stop looking at him and I''m still in shock. He thinks because I am not looking at the ring that I don''t like it. And starts asking me if the ring is okay. The ring is more beautiful than I could have ever imagined!
Then he tells me that he has some champagne to celebrate with...its a bottle of Dom Pernigon 1996 (sp)....I''m not a champagne person, but I know its expensive. We toast. The champagne was so good. Then he tells me that we only have a few minutes together because we have 8:00 pm dinner reservations at Rainbow Lodge and that I have to go home and change clothes.
Well then I am freaking out because I don''t know who to call first and he tells me to call my grandma. He also tells me that he went to see my grandma on Sunday after I had left her house to ask her blessing (I had totally thought he did this when were there the previous weekend).
I go home (fortunately I like 5 minutes away because I have ~30 minutes to get ready). I''m calling my friends and screaming into the phone that we are engaged, and then mid-sentance would exclaim things like "OMG! I have to shave my legs!" I somehow manage to shower, shave, wash my face, chi the rubber band line out of my hair, curl my hair, re-make up and get ready for dinner. He was amazed that I did all of this in record time.
Well in the middle of my insanity to get ready, I remembered that I had already bought his watch, and decide that he needs it right away since we are all dressed up. So I pull it out and put it infront of the door with a sweet note on top and candle beside it, turn out the lights. When he gets there he sees the package and asks what it is...he starts to open it and can''t believe that I actually got him the watch. He''s so excited and loves it but keeps telling me that I shouldn''t have.
We go to dinner and he keeps saying how much he loves the ring and loves the way it looks on me and for every 5 times he says that he says he loves his watch. Dinner was fabulous and lasted about 2.5 hours. At the end of dinner he tells me he''s going to give me my birthday present a day early, and its a gift certificate for a manicure & pedicure at my nail place...I''d already scheduled an appointment on my b-day as my gift to myself...so it was perfect! Then we go back to his place and dance to our song and drink more champagne, because it can''t go to waste. We talk to his sister in DC. She''s so excited.
He tells me that his mom, sister, dad, other sister, and two of his married friends and their wives have known all about it for awhile. He also tells me that he was going to do it at my apartment but didn''t because I didn''t go to yoga. He mentions that he did it a little sooner because of his dad being in the hospital and he figured that I''d be expecting it on our Austin trip this weekend. He joked that his sister had flown in from DC to see their dad in the hospital because she really wanted to see the ring. He had WF ship it to his sister and she tried to open but found the security seal and didn''t...she then shipped it to his parents, which is why he had gone there for dinner. His mom, sister, and friends wife all thought it would be too big b/c they have tiny finger, I was afraid it would be too small. Its a little loose right now, but it will be just right in the summer. I''m going to get some sizing beads for it.
My Birthday:
Everyone at work loves my ring and of course I don''t get any work done. In addition everyone asks if we have set a date...as if I''ve had time to book everything between 7pm and 7am. We decided that we aren''t going to do any planning until after the holidays so that we can enjoy being engaged. Well that night I had my birthday party with my Fiance! my friends and their SOs. I love that the timing enabled me to share my engagement with all of them at the same time on my birthday. Of course I let them all try on the ring. My college best friend had come in town for my b-day and brought me a bridal magazine.
The Austin Trip:
He revealed at our engagement dinner that we were staying at the Driskill Hotel in Austin--the hotel is amazing We first go to my grandparents in New Braunfels to surprise them with the news and they are so excited. Then that night we have dinner with his best friend and his wife and they announce they are expecting, so we both have something to celebrate. Saturday I have lunch with a friend and share the news with her. That night we have a fabulous dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Everything was such a whirlwind and so amazing, and I loved being engaged just in time for my birthday so that I could share it with everyone, and that we got to have a little get-away to spend some quality time together....
okay...now I''ll start posting pics....
