Aaaargh! What a bummer!

I recommend buying huge topiaries (spelling?) and then lining them up outside the windows so you can''t see the construction site.

Sorry about this hun

Thanks so much for your advice guys. I really think its a great solution, but I''m just really hesitant to tack another cost onto the wedding right now. Even with the discount, we are over budget.

I called the city this afternoon/evening to try to get the scoop on what''s going on. Turns out the city is installing a sculpture garden, which will be really beautiful when it''s finished, AFTER the wedding, of course. lol. They put me through to the project manager, who was very understanding. The project definitely won''t be finished in time for the wedding, but he''s willing to move the equipment around and possibly move the fences back from the patio.

The venue didn''t inform me that the construction was going on, because they honestly didn''t know. My mom just happened to visit the venue to check on some ideas for decoration on the day they started working. It''s the city that''s doing the construction; the area in question is in the process of revitalization, so I guess I should have known that some construction in the area would be possible. It just didn''t occur to me that it would be so effin close!

Thanks for letting me vent you guys. I''m going to keep an eye on it to see if it gets uglier or nicer-looking, and then I''ll make a decision about the plants/screens, which are a truly fabulous idea.

Thanks again!

Is your venue popular with local couples getting married?

If so... maybe you could suggest that the venue rent some potted trees for the duration of the construction? It would probably save them a lot of headaches with other brides in the long run...

Agreed!

I understand the frustration, but I doubt any guest with associate it with your wedding (and many probably won''t even notice). Summer time is construction time and almost every city is torn up right now.

I also don''t think you need to assume any costs yourself, but if you can talk the venue into providing something for you--rented trees, draping fabric, etc.--that would be a wonderful solution. And, the great news is that you get some money back! Focus on that because I bet all us BIWs would appreciate a last minute windfall
