Okay first of all I am a total scatterbrain and a complete procrastinator... saving grace is that I'm a recovering perfectionist! LOL

I can't believe how stress free I am going into this party. I have to run a couple errands in the AM and cook and straighten and that's about it. I love spending time in a clean kitchen cooking for a party in a house that just needs to be wiped down. Well I won't mention the laundry that needs to be put away that I should be folding right now ::whistles innocently:: The relatives arrive tomorrow and between 50-75 people will be decending upon my house on Saturday. Oh my! LOL I have an old farmhouse - it's the best house in the world with a literal heart of gold (chesapeake sunset to be exact hehe) but it is old and it is funky... The last two years we had our annual bash at the park and after a year of living here we're ready to open the doors, at least the downstairs which is *mostly* renovated/decorated - hey - just gives people a chance to see the updated look next year!!) but this house is not by modern specs whatsoever which makes it for an unusal party to say the least. Thankfully we have two buildings and a 60 foot apple tree and enough yard for a slip-n-slide, 8' pool and one of those bouncy house things LOL (that was husband's idea lol) I have a but-ton of cooking to do (think 10 pounds of potatoes will be enough if 30-40 of the people will be kids?) Husband is actually buying a second fridge for our outbuilding... too cool LOL ahhh the little luxuries... :)

I can't believe I'm not a basket case. 15 years of marriage and I'm finally figuring this party thing out LOL It's been a crazy week though... besides this new diamond obsession, we've also been selecting a new renter for our old house. She's perfect, unbelievable. I can't believe our luck... our last guys were GREAT but this woman has a freaking pedigree just about, at least as far as finding a renter is concerned.

So... all of this is great and all, but what I'm *proud* about... yeah I'm getting there... lol... is that I handed husband a honey-do list and am not micromanaging him! I think that's why I feel so stress free. Yeah I know, in a way it's like a duhhhhhhh but all these years and I never figured out how to both make the list AND let it go LOL I always did one or the other or tried to do it all myself... no wonder this is so stress free. Yay me!! lol

ADD: my husband's management style is very non-mircomanagerial and I think it's rubbing off on me - should I tell him? LOL!!!

Good for you! Just wait, the older you get, it gets even better. I used to be the same way. Not anymore.

As for the potato question, I personally would make a little more, but I''m one that would always rather have too much than too little. Just a thought!

Your house sounds devine, I love "old" things, especially houses. They have lots of character. I''m stuck in my grammas brick ranch that I "thought" was a stepping stone to the type of old home I was raised in. Hubby won''t budge, says they''re money pits and too much work. We''ll die in this house. lol *sighs* I envy you.

At any rate, sounds like you''ve covered all the bases. Have fun, and let us know how it went!

I always wanted an old home, too, but we''ve just never had the time for renovating. Of course, this house, which we bought new 18 years ago, now needs redecorating anyway! So we do one little project at a time!

Good luck with your party, Sara! I admire you for making potato salad...I''d be buying bags of chips for that many people! Lol! As a matter of fact, we''re having a hotdog cookout for 120 at church tonight and I am in charge of that. But at least it''s not at my house!!! I have to go do the shopping when I get off this computer!

Sounds like you''re going to have a great event! What time did you want us all to stop by?!

We weren''t even looking for a house when someone we knew mentioned they were selling their house and I ::perked:: and asked how many bedrooms LOL But when I saw the house we just fell in *love*. It was built in 1920 in this little island of a neighborhood with a ton of history... 1.2 miles from our old house which was a 1200 square foot ranch in suburbia... we literally live a mile from stores and blockbuster and gas... and yet we have almost an acre on a creek... it''s such a unique location, right in the heart of *everything* and yet not like anything we''re surrounded by. Best thing about this house is that when it gets weedy or dusty it just looks more charming - it''s weird! We''re gutting the downstairs bath in dec and the laundryroom is being finished in august... but the rest of the downstairs is done, the previous owners remodeled the kitchen so that''s good! We were considering upgrading but in many ways this isn''t an upgrade... and in other ways we know we''ll NEVER have this much land or this many buildings ever again LOL

Oh I bought chips too! I bought potato chips and corn chips and burger paties and dogs from costco... then I''m making potato salad, fruit salad, veggie tray, bean dip and spinach dip. I think that''s it. Good luck tonight! Have fun shopping! That''s a lot of hog dogs!!!!!!!! lol
