This isn't the pink heart, it's the other pear I was waiting for from Suregems. It's definitely not as saturated as the MC stone, but it's a pretty pink. What do you think?

OH, I like the color of the new one. They are both very pretty but I like that it's bigger and more pink!

Those were exactly my thoughts. The only thing that's bugging me are the inclusions. It does have a hint of orange that's not showing up in the photos and isn't as saturated, but for $400+ I'm not complaining.

From the pics it looks very pretty. You have two very nice spinels. The one from MC may not fit the bill as truly "Mahenge" color but it really is stunning. The second stone is pink but photos may or may not capture the beauty of your stone. For your quest I would want you to have a pink spinel that glows in every lighting condition.I don't think you will be happy until you get that perfect, glowy, neon pink stone. What do you see when you look at it in different lights? And BTW- I love your Mahenge topics. They are interesting and I love looking at your pics.

the new one is sweet..has that sleepy look to me ...holds it's color very well or so it seems...

thank you for the topic kudos. I always feel like I'm getting annoying, so it's nice to know I'm not at least with 2 people. :-D

I do like the color of the MC mahenge, but it's definitely not glowy. It's a really great red though. The new one is glowy but not as saturated. I really do have to end my quest here (DH and I had a blowout about the $$ I've spent, even though I get refunds). I"m still hopeful about the little heart ring that's coming hopefully tomorrow. I totally didn't expect this stone to be here so quickly so that I could compare all three together. I just hope I get them all by the weekend and I can do a full on CS fashion photo shoot.

AG: it is sort of sleepy because of its inclusions. I didn't even think about that. Sorta fun, eh?

Is it possible to love both? So not what I wanted, but I can't help who/what I love.

I love each for what it is, and by the way, I am not tired of your threads either

If it were me and I could only keep one, it would be the pinker one,
your ring is sort of glowy red, right?
I much prefer the color of the pinker pear, the MC pear looked a bit....
brownish..... to me, at least in some of your pics...
It's nice you can get the heart ring to compare all three.

Oh, and BTW i tend to love inclusions, especially when you get that awesome glow,
like in the shade or on a cloudy day....

You know it's odd, but it didn't actually go brownish in real life. I think my yellow walls/floors/carpets reflected in it. Part of why I returned the other MC stone was I did see that one go brown, mostly OUTDOOR (where I thought it was supposed to look best).

I'm excited to get the ring. That's the one I have the most hope for. Hopefully it doesn't totally disappoint me.

I really like the new one! The other one just looks too red to me...

I would send it back

I can't really comment as I know next to nothing about mahenge spinels but I can say that I think your topic for this thread is hysterical ;))

and for what it is worth I really like the color of this one better.

I love your threads and I am living vicariously through you to get a Mahenge, so post away!

FWIW...not sure if I love either stone, only be/c the pink is just too included for my taste, but that's just me. That red is awesome, but I didn't think that was what you were looking for?

I'm falling more and more in love with the red, even though it wasn't what I was looking for. I took these shots this afternoon when we finally got a little sun. Of the three stones I've gotten from MC they may be native cut, but they're really good native cuts. I really appreciate MC's customer service too.

If you are absolutely sold on buying one of them, I'd choose pink.

My diagnosis: you have a serious case of "Mahenge fever", like we all do here...

I have serious Mahenge fever

I prefer the larger one, mainly coz I just love that sleepy glow from the inclusions. I would love to own that stone. But I think you should keep both: DH not withstanding ;) ;) ;)

Take a look at the last two pics you posted...notice on the top one..the side by side...they both have roughly the same extinction pattern. The one on the right has dark black areas of extinction...it's "crystal" is good and pure so shows extinction much more and much darker...solid black.....the one of the left has much less blackness in it's extinction even though the extinction is roughly the same in both stones. It has a sleepy look and it's color holds in the "crystal" better. What made Mahenges hot in the beginning, if I remember correctly, was the sleepy looking hot pink colors. The sleepiness caused by minute inclusions in the stone scattering the light as it enters the stone makes extinction much more subdued. It's synonymous with Kasmir sapphires and the silk which caused " removal of extinction" and is what made the kashmir sapphire famous. Sure you can and will have larger inclusions that can detract but remember color is King and most inclusions can only be seen by you where as the color can be seen by everyone.
Just go back over your pics and look at how little extinction(blackness) is in the new stone...now look at the smaller old stone...much much more

Given the choice, I'd return the smaller pear and keep the larger one. The smaller pear is rather garnet-ish and has areas of darkness. However, I still don't know what you are looking for in your spinel, therefore, it is possible that I would also recommend sending back the new larger pear.

Actually, what Chrono is saying makes sense.... maybe until you know FOR SURE
what you are looking for, and then not gonna settle.. :))
I think these days, it's the VERY LUCKY person, or one with the BIG BUCKS
who gets the 'perfect' pink.... I like lots of different pinks,
and my stones reflect that (what they all have in common is good fluor)

If you are really falling in love with the smaller red pear, however, then that's what
you should keep though.

The new one sure has a nice low light glow

If you want my opinion, if the smaller one looks that color in the sun, it doesn't appear to have strong fluorescence, which is key to having a fine Mahenge, but if you like it as a pink spinel, for the color alone, than keep it. Just know that it does not appear to be the color of a very good Mahenge if your photos are accurate. Fine Mahenges should go more saturated in the sun. If they do not, than something is wrong.

Nice Mahenge!

The smaller red one is a very nice spinel (as I've said before) and of the two, I much prefer it.

However, neither are what I think you're looking for. You're looking for screaming neon hot pink aren't you? If yes, then return these and wait wait wait wait wait until one comes along. They're not common now but can still be found if you're prepared to wait it out!
