Imperial Topaz Value

Hello everybody,

First time poster here. I am trying to understand the value and market for a substantial imperial topaz piece (17.5ct), but it has been hard to find good information on fair retail vs. wholesale pricing. I know gemstones can be much more tricky than diamonds, but does anyone out there have any good resources for this other than the buying guide (http://www.palagems.com/topaz_buyers_guide.htm) on Palagems?

Price is very colour dependant therefore, there is no one guide (or even 10) to say how much it can possibly cost. The best thing is to scout around online to get a general feel. Unfortunately, I've seen dealers call anything ranging from orange to pink to red to purple topaz an imperial topaz so go by the colour, not the name.

Thanks Chrono! Yes, I did read the thread on here discussing what is "imperial" vs. not and got the feeling it truly is all about color. The stone I am trying to research is orange/amber with maybe a touch of reddish/pink. Overall, more "amber-y".

I am willing to pay an arm and a leg for untreated imperial topaz for years but I can't get any.

There was a rumor of new mine in south brazil but I can't seem to get closer.
