I went against all Pricescope rules and made impulsive purchase on Ebay.

I fell for the cut, I cannot resist OMCs with tiny bubbly facets and flower under the table.

It's a non certified Old Mine Cut diamond estimated by seller to be 2.45 K-M, SI1.

The seller does mention the chip on one of the facets, but I cannot see it on the pictures.

The good thing is it does have a 14 days money back policy, but I really hope it won't have to do use it.

I am sure that all ebay gurus on this site saw it, but for some reason avoided it. I had it on my watch list since end of November when it still was 8,500. I got it for much less than that.

Please share with me, if you did see it but decided to avoide it - why?

I didn't see it on ebay but it does look like a nice stone. I would be interested to see it in better lighting when you get it.

I don't see it...it looks gorgeous!

I kept seeing that on eBay and was wondering why nobody had pounced on it yet. I think it's pretty. I like my mine cuts cut like that.

It looks like a beautiful stone!

Hope you love it and it turns out gorgeous in person.

ETA - I haven't been looking on eBay for diamonds lately so didn't see it. I just made a jewelry purchase this morning, but it was for colored gem stones...

I think it is a very pretty stone, and sounds like you got it at a great price as well! do you know what the measurements of the stone are? Just curious!

Athenaworth, same with me. I kept wondering why nobody snatched it, or at least post about it here. The price seemed not too high even at 8,500 and seller has great rating and return policy. I kept watching until it hit yesterday's price point and then I took the risk.
Maybe people smarter then me were waiting for it to go even lower (that is what my husband told me :)).

Junebu17, it's 8.1 X 8.6 X 5.2. I hope i'll like it. If I do, I'll have to start selling some of my old stones.

I saw that on ebay. In fact, I think he posted it as two separate auctions by mistake. Very pretty OMC diamond and great price.

I've been stalking that one - so glad you got it! I think Dreamer recommended it to someone in RT recently.

I found that post :twirl: . It makes me feel much better. Dreamer's and mine tastes are similar when it comes to old bubbly stones.

And if it has Dreamer's recommendation it means a lot to me! She has a diamond sixth sense!

I thought the price was great! As long as the chip isn't prone to further chipping, it should be fine. Small surface chips can easily be repolished. The center might go a little dark in some angles if something dark is directly in front of it, but it's much better than a lot of other mine cuts I've seen!

These are my thoughts too.

I think its a lovely example of its type -- these really early mine cuts are so deep and pillowy, and they have such short lower halves, that I think some obtruction -- or "maltese cross -- is inevitable. But I really like it and I think the price was great provided it is over 1ct and in the K-M range in color, and provided the chip is not a durabilty issue.

I think it did not sell because people are scared of chips, and also because larger old cuts don't always sell quickly on ebay from independent sellers/low volume sellers.

Not that it matters, but this is not a "bubbly" type of stone in my way of thinking :)) This is a really classic OMC, with its slightly rounded outline and very obviour "pie" or maltese cross look under the table. If the lower halves were a little longer and the pavilion and crowns shallower it might look more "bubbly" in the sense that the size of the under table facets would be more similar to the outer periphery facets (like TGals center stone in her ring). Anyways, whatever name it has, I think it has great potential. And as a piece of history I love its rustic, old style of cutting.

Thanks for posting in this topic. I was hoping you will.
Splintery fire does everything for me, in all cuts. My eyes prefer tiny facets and kozibe all over the stone to bigger but fewer flashes. I definitely need to take a refresher course on cut vocabulary halves talk (it's been awhile since I was here last time, was curing my diamond addiction my adopting two adorable rescue dogs and talking long walks with them ).

ForteKitty,
I could not resist the price. When she relisted it at the lower price, discussed with my husband a holidays+ birthday + anniversary present and went ahead and bought it. There was another one I was stalking for a long time with a similar cut, but I disliked the setting and could not justify buying it with the setting.

Here it is:

This would be such a beautiful big sister for my OMC earrings, the faceting is just the same. I didn't pounce on it cause my wallet doesn't jump that high

Inna, please come back and post tons of pics when you get it!

I like the cut on the one you got loads more - and this way, you can set it in the perfect setting, eventually. I love it as a pendant, though! Do you think you'll want to wear it as-is, or change it up?

GemFever,
I was always a fan of your earrings. I tried to be a good girl for a while, but the end of the year - Bonus Time!!!

Circe,
I won't keep it in the pendant. I'll put it into something very simple so I can have it on my hand, until I'll figure out the style I want (assuming it checks out to be worth the money I paid for it)
I am not good with choosing settings and every time I save for something decent, I find another diamond. :wink2:

I think it's to die for!! Hope it's everything you want it to be!

Hi Inna, checking in. Did you get it? Did you like it?

Happy holidays!

GemFever, yes and yes! It fully satisfies my craving of the last few years for the disco ball stone (all you see around the table is hundreds and hundreds of culet reflections) and closes OMC page for me. I still wear it on my neck, but already ordered couple of vintage ring settings off ebay. Here are some pictures of them. I am a bit more interested in the one with sapphires. It will be interesting to see how light that comes through the blue stones from the sides of the setting will affect the stone in terms of color and light return.

I'm so glad to hear it worked out and the stone is everything you hoped! Is there going to a next chapter with another diamond cut or colored stone, perhaps? I've been daydreaming about emerald cuts myself 8)

Cheers to the pretty OMC!
