Hi everyone -

Our 10th wedding anniversary is coming up in May and I'm trying to decide the right approach for my wife's anniversary gift.

I'm thinking about an eternity band but quick research looks like sizing is forever too :) So would appreciate any thoughts and advice on size and approach - should I chance surprising her and is the eternity band a good choice to complement what she has? If so what size and quality of diamonds would go well?

She currently wears a simple platinum wedding band with a 6 prong platinum solitaire. So I was thinking this would replace the platinum band? Of course have forgotten all the 4 c's in 10 years but from the appraisal and GIA report the solitaire stone (maybe too much info but not sure what will help with advice) is a 1.34 carat round brilliant cut diamond, VVS1, F, 7.1 - 7.13 x 4.40, no fluorescence, excellent polish, symmetry - 61.8% x 55%. No culet (not sure what that is). When I bought it I was more focused on overall stone quality than size but she also has pretty small hands - ring size is 4.5 (or was when I bought it).

Looking at maybe 4 carat eternity or maybe 3? I also saw 5 stone anniversary bands. Thoughts? Advice on if I should chance surprising her? We haven't really talked about this before...she's generally not very showy in terms of jewelry but I'm guessing she would make an exception with this. Appreciate any perspective! Thanks in advance!

Eternity band is a perfect 10 year annivesary gift. I got mine when we were married 10 years. Mine is graduated marquis all the way around. That was 16 years ago today I would go for round or princess cuts ....

the carat weight depends on your budget. I would go for G-H sI well cut stones. The size of her finger you can figure out by other rings she wears.

I have to tell you that I wear my eternity band on my left hand and my engagment ring on the right. I like having the band big enough to be a stand alone piece.

There are times when my 3.66 carat ring is too much so I am happy to wear my eternity by itself.

I think mine is 4-4.5 carats.

there are so many great bands offered by PS online vendor

Look through some of their web sites.

You shouldn't be looking at 3 ct+ eternity bands to wear with a 1.3 ct diamond. Diamonds that large almost look best as a stand-alone ring. Is her current wedding band thin? Because if it is, she can still wear it between the e-ring and eternity band. I would only do a full eternity if buying one that can be easily exchanged since they can't be sized. I really love the ones from Tiffany because they sit low, even though they carry a price premium. I would recommend no larger than 8 point diamonds to go with that size ring. This one is about the right size and weight but very expensive:

Other style, lower price:

Memoire is the other brand that sets their diamonds low, and they carry all sizes and cost less. You just probably can't exchange so you need to get the size right! Pearlman's carries them and gives a discount for PS members.

Aside from a band like these, I'd go with a five stone band for a right hand. I'd probably use WhiteFlash for that project and get 25-30 point stones.

I love the idea of an eternity, but make sure she is comfortable with size. I have a 4.75ct eternity that is a size 6.5 and hardly ever wear it. I find it to be so uncomfortable to wear inbetween my fingers.

Right now french cut bands are very popular on PS but something you don't see all the time in the general public. I really like them as they are flashy but in a very under-stated way. Would she like that?

I love the first tiffany band that DS suggested.

An eternity band sounds like a lovely gift for a tenth anniversary. I would recommend a much smaller eternity band (unless your wife particularly loves the blingy large stone look) as it will go better with her current rings and be more comfortable. I also second the sea to buy off the rack so it can b exchanged should the sizing be off.

What's your budget op? That will help the psers to give you more appropriate suggestions?

HI:

Does she wear many right hand rings? I ask because she may prefer to wear an eternity of such carat weight on her other hand vs. pairing it together with the rings she currently has.

Besides an eternity ring, diamond stud earrings or tennis bracelet are great choices. Or earrings and pendant. Or a SS Rolex watch.

Thanks everyone for all the quick and very helpful replies.

A couple of answers to questions. Budget is probably $10 to maybe $15K on the high end. But mostly focused on finding the right gift. And her current band is thin.

Love the tiffany ring posted - I think that could work well in terms of complimenting her existing solitaire plus the return option and we have a local store.

The other option seems to be a right hand larger carat weight (3 or 4) for a similar price. She doesn't wear a ton of rings on her right hand that I can recall. Does the tiffany brand/return policy/complement to her solitaire justify the carat weight difference for similar stone quality if I went right hand standalong ring? Seems to be about 1.6 carat from the tiffany web site vs. total 3 carat weight for all around $10K.

Thank you again everyone. Has been really helpful input!

If she is not very showy, I would probably not do the larger 5-stone ring. An eternity band with smaller diamonds (0.08 or less) sounds perfect. Tiffany would be a great option because other than paying a premium for the name, you really can't go wrong with quality and consumer-friendly policies (like 30 days to return or exchange if the size isn't right or she would prefer something different).

Another option could be a diamond necklace. No worries about sizing there.

I've been married almost 8 years and would be ecstatic if my husband picked out either one for me.

Perhaps not touch the wedding band, but take her ER that you gave her 10 yrs ago and upgrade the setting to a halo pave, many have posted pics lately.

This could be a great idea, but I'd definitely get her sign-off first.

HI:

Is it essential that this be a surprise gift? Did you choose her engagement ring without her input?

Tiffany has a great return policy and offers lovely products--she has options if the first choice isn't the correct size, etc. Even full return.

Memoire has the most stunning eternity rings as DS rightly suggested. But you will be limited bcause they are special orders and therefore not subject to return.

Perhaps she likes the wedding ring arrangement she presently has--she might not want to add an eternity ring. Hard to know if she did not tell you in particular...of course that make special order eternity rings a challenge, right or left hand.

Tiffany will always outprice comparables.

cheers--Sharon

Would you consider a 3/4 eternity band? It has the look of an eternity but the practicality of sizing. I totally understand if you prefer a full eternity though.
