Over the weekend I went to a jewellery store and they told me that any clouds will drastically affect the sparkle/fire/scintillation of a diamond.

They told me that clouds would make the light disburse into the diamond and prevent it from bouncing back out which will drastically affect it performance.

Can someone comment about that?

Not true.

Clouds can range from tiny dots that are nearly impossible to find in stones graded VVS, to obvious, ugly, major blobs to the naked eye in I3 stones.

I think you need to find another jeweler.

LOL!

She wasn''t ''my'' jeweller. If she were, I would certainly take your advice

I purchased from a pricescope vendor and I was in looking at settings.
I had a little concern because the diamond I chose does have clouds.

Any concerns on performance with regards to the attached AGS report? As well, my avatar is the ASET image.

See attached...

In this case, an AGS SI1 with cloud listed as the first (most important) inclusion, I'd want to see it in person to decide if I could live with that particular cloud.

Chances are if I rejected this stone because of this cloud it would because the cloud made the stone NOT eye-clean, not because they cloud degraded the light performance.

Hi iceexplorer

As a rule of thumb, it is grade setting clouds in SI clarities than can occasionally impact performance but it is always best to ask the vendor/ trusted expert in each case to see if the clouds are having a negative effect. Your diamond should be fine, you purchased from a trusted Pricescope vendor - Brian Gavin if I remember rightly? So there should not be an issue - looks like a great stone!

Because the cloud is listed first as the main grade setting inclusion, I would be cautious. This type of stone needs to be seen in person or carefully judged by an expert.

I've seen it in person and it looked great. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert and I didn't have any other stones to compare it to.

Yes, it was from Brian Gavin. They said it was gorgeous and Brian said it was an excellent SI1. Neither really speak directly of whether the clouds affect performance.

I might be slightly paranoid. I don't want to have any buyers remorse and when that lady made that comment I got nervous.

In that case I wouldn''t worry, Brian would not have a diamond with a detrimental inclusion as part of his signature line.

Enjoy your beautiful diamond!
