At last! A benefit of being a total, complete, lifelong insomniac...you get beautiful diamonds at a discount price!
So, we had an OK Thanksgiving day, quiet, but grateful that my parents are in good enough health to travel to the US for Christmas. Sad to see my mother looking so well when she is, in reality, so sick, with the breast cancer controlled yet incurable in her spine and pelvis. When we are apart I can forget about it, but when I see her, it brings it all home.
So I got into bed and my husband asks me if I've had a nice day, at which I promptly burst into tears at the whole Mum-being-terminally-ill scenario. I remained very upset for a couple of hours and then gave up trying to sleep - I've always been a really bad sleeper anyway - and got up to have some hot chocolate. I thought I'd log on to my email, and I saw an offer from BGD on diamond pendants, where you got $195 off the setting and then a percentage off the diamond ranging from 1% to 8% - but there are only a few coupons. In addition, there were only eight of the 8% coupons. And I got one!
For ages, I've been searching for a super-ideal-cut 18k yellow gold bezel pendant in the 0.25 - 0.30 range. I've costed it up numerous times on Blue Nile and for the diamond parameters I want plus setting, it's about 1k. It was a purchase I had in my mind for maybe next year sometime. I was seriously considering spending 1.7 or even 2k on a Tiffany pendant. I already have a Tiffany 0.12 yellow gold bezel pendant. When I was younger I wore it on its own, but now I use it mostly as a layering piece. I wanted something in 18k yellow that's larger than my Tiffany yellow 0.12, but it still had to be delicate, so between 0.25 - 0.30 is perfect.
So, I ended up with a Brian Gavin Signature diamond, 0.283, AGS triple 0, G Si2, and from what I could see of the diamond's image, it looked eyeclean. Also, the HCA score is 1.1.
Total cost of 18k bezel pendant plus diamond was $585.72 instead of the full price of $816, which is such an amazing price for a super-ideal diamond of just under .30 plus bezel setting in 18k. I was thinking of the 1k - 1.7k range for a BN or Tiffany pendant, so I really cannot believe the price. Usually I buy D or E colour especially for studs and rings, but for a solitaire pendant in this size, I'm fine with a G, and eyeclean Si2 is my favourite clarity. I am absolutely thrilled, and I know it will be beautiful.
Here's the diamond. Hope it looks OK! With only eight of the 8% coupons, I had to act fast - no time to consult PS! So just tell me it looks ace, OK?

P.S. This will be my fourth diamond bezel solitaire pendant. I know this sounds nuts, but they all have such different looks! I now have two in yellow gold and two in white metal. As follows:
0.12 bezel pendant in yelllow gold, Tiffany
0.28 bezel pendant in yellow gold, BGD
0.22 bezel pendant in platinum, Tiffany
0.52 bezel pendant in 18k white gold, James Allen
Yes, I'm a bit bezel-crazy! But they really do look different, all of them. The largest has a sparkly diamond-cut chain. The smallest is for layering. The 0.22 is an E and together with the plat, is pure ice in an everyday size. And the 0.52 is AGS triple 0 and D colour, so although it's not the largest solitaire, its respectable size (plus bezel) combined with the fire of the cut and the ice of the colour make it a real eyecatcher. It's a bit much for every day, so I wear it on special occasions.
Right, the melatonin has kicked in so sorry for rambling email. Will try to get some sleep! I can go to bed now dreaming of my new pendant instead of scarier things.
