Good morning:

I recently purchase an emerald ring and am shopping for insurance for it. Does anyone on here have any suggestions? Because of the emerald being a "fragile" stone, I want to make sure it is covered in case it is chipped or damaged in anyway. Thanks for any help you can give me.

An inexpensive way it to tag it onto your home insurance as an adder. If not, try Jewelers Mutual. You do have the right paperwork (any lab memo or gemmologist appraisal) for it, correct?

I do have all the required documents. I have contacted my homeowner's insurance company to obtain a quote to add a rider to the policy, but the company does not cover "damage." If anyone knows what companies cover damage it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am also concered that an emerald being so fragile will be considered an "inherent vice" and any damae to the stone will not be covered.

My emerald is covered under USAA - VPP insurance which covers damage, loss, theft, etc. It was easy to set up. Took 5 minutes for them to quote me over the phone and start the policey if that. I know USAA is mostly used by military but I believe now anyone can use them for insurance. But I'm not 100% sure.

I have my valuable emerald ring insured via Jewelers Mutual(perfect circle). i too was wanting to make sure the emerald itself was covered, in case of damage to the stone. Seems like a lot of the other policies cover only theft. Prior to signing up for JM, i called 2x, to grill the customer service reps about what exactly is "damage" vs "wear and tear(which is not covered. Their responses were what i wanted to hear- that damage-such as if i accidentaly hit the emerad into a hard surface and it cracked or chipped, is covered.

I just want to check that you're in the US? In the UK, depending on the value, you might have to do it differently!
