Interesting design, what is this cut?

Well it's sure as heck not a ruby. Unless it's synthetic at least. As for the cut, there is probably not a name for that one.

Since it gets wider the farther away / deeper into the stone it is, contrary to rules of perspective, I would call it an Escher cut!

VL - lol

Freke - Well, it probably would be safest to assume the stone is glass or something synthetic, but I still think it's an awesome design for a ring.

I love east/west settings and this one really shows off a ton of stone with those exposed sides and the way they angle outward. I'd love to see a diagram of that cut or be able to save the images. I tried, but it appears you can't.

I'd post the picture here directly, but I'm not sure how. I have no use for a size 13 men's ring and I know there's no telling what the stone is, but I think this is just a beautiful, unique design. Is that an actual gemstone cut, and if so, what is it called?

I think it's just a simple scissors cut if I'm not mistaken. Definitely synthetic or a simulant. If that's a real natural ruby, I'll eat my hat.

Whats up with the weird triangular sides though? I was going to say scissor too...until I realized that those were parts of the same stone...

Wanted pics?

Yeah, I would have said a modified scissors cut. He does say, in the description, that he believes it to be synthetic ruby.

Good one! :appl:

Modified scissor cut with a huge gaping window in the middle. I'm pretty sure the vendor's guess of it being synthetic is highly possible. An asscher cut is basically a step cut with wide corners (windmill pattern) which this one is clearly not.
