Is 0.5 mm too big of a difference for OEC earrings?

I currently have a 5.6 mm OEC(0.75ct) and have found a very good match in pattern and price, but it is 5.1 mm (0.55ct).

There is a return period, but I am on a tight budget and hate to waste some money on return shipping if this size gap is just too big.

If it was 5.4 or so I wouldn't hesitate.

Are you going to be wearing as studs? Would you be bezelling them? I think it would possibly be noticeable, but depending upon how you set them, it may minimize it.

A bezel would help to equalize the two sizes.

Ah yes, sorry, I was thinking bezels. But didn't know if covering up the larger one's edge more to make the diamonds faceup equal would be worth while. Or if it wouldn't be necessary to be that drastic.

This would be my first pair, so want to get them right as much as possible. Because I don't see upgrading any time soon, but not to say never.

You could ask who ever is creating them, make a thin bezel on the larger diamond and a larger bezel on the smaller diamond, so the finished exterior diameter appears the same. That may help mask the discrepancy.

Have you decided who will make these for you? If yes, ask what their thoughts would be on the size difference in the stones. Often with earrings, because you have your head 'in between', you can get away with a size difference because they are not side by side as they would be in a ring.

I think that's too big of a difference. I have stones that are a much smaller difference than that and I can pick out which one is smaller by sight fairly easily.

I think it may be too much of a gap, but I'd ask whoever is making the setting what they think. If the price is really good on the stone, it might be worth paying the shipping to see them side by side so you can judge for yourself.

The size difference would be too much for me as well. Given that these are your first (& you want to get them right), I would look for something that's much closer dimension-wise.

If you're anything like me when I get something new, then you're going to spend a lot of time studying & admiring them, & I think the size difference will bug you.

I agree that they need to be closer to the same size. I would say the maximum range I would consider for that stone would be 5.5-5.7mm.

Thanks for all the posts! I had a feeling that was going to be the answer.

I haven't decided who to work with yet for the settings. Any recommendations? I always puruse WF and BGavin. I did see some people have used IDJewlery.

I was hoping for possibly a double bezel, or smooth bezel with miligran on inside or outside. I need to pull up my old file of ideas - only issue is that computer has long died.

The diamond listing expired, but I'm chatting with the seller. So maybe he can come down enough to make it worth while and I keep it for a pendant if its not an exact match.

I will keep you updated!

Love to see bezel earring pics and vendor suggestions in the mean time.
