Hi all I'm thinking of purchasing a pear shaped diamond pendent with some bday and Xmas money from last year however I only have a budget for excellent cut, G or H colour, vs2 clarity diamond.
I'm just thinking whether I should purchase it or leave it all together if it will look too small.

I'm thinking of purchasing this one

Anyone? :)

too small? no. It depends on your body type as to how big it will look on you but 50 points is nice for a pendant.

I wouldnt buy that one, as i would want to pick my pear out myself, make sure its a good one

Funny my parents gave me a pear pendant when I turned 16 it was .25 It is adorable and I still have it now at 55. I just recently passed it on to my daughter who is 22.

I wear a OMC .80 for my pendant. So no I don't think .50 is too small.

Howevver that being said look at jamesallen.com there is a .58 and a 70 ideal cut H si1 for less and enough left over to set it.

Are that's really nice!

Iv had a look at james Allen there is just so many options to choose from! I'm not sure which stone to pick!

I do not think its too small but I would definitely want to pick my own. We can
help you pick if you think its to difficult. We would have to know your budget.

That would be great if you could help me pick the diamond!
My budget is £1300 which is around $2200, if I purchase from the us I need to account for tax n duty charges which is around 20%

That price includes both diamond and setting :) thanks!

Iv heard pear or any fancy shaped diamonds show colour more than a round brillant? Would it be a bad idea dropping down to a H?

Anyone?

I had an H pear and i did notice the color more than i do in my K round.

ill look again but on JA i didnt see too many pears i really loved. Are you open to any shape or just pears?

A 0.5 ct is probably pretty a bit small IMHO. Pears conceal inclusions, so you may be fine with SI2. You're probably fine with H. For your budget you can probably get more than 0.5 ct and be adequate on color, cut, and clarity. Keep searching. I may buy a 1 ct F SI1 for $2500 tonight if I get myself off these message boards and if the photos check out OK.

The key, particularly if it's just a simple pendant like that without a halo, is getting the shape right. There are a lot of misshapen pears - too long (almost like a marquise) or too squat and rounded (almost like an RBC) or nearly triangular-shaped. Look for a length-to-width ratio of 1.55 to 1.75. Don't buy one on the internet sight unseen. I've looked at hundreds recently and most of the cheapest ones turn out bad.

For something more distinctive, you might think about buying a yellow pear. This one is reasonably priced (and probably negotiable beyond the listed price). The feather doesn't seem too bad to me, although the shallow depth lets some light through on the sides.

I love my .40 carat round solitaire pendant. I especially love that it can't be mistaken for costume jewelry bc I don't see too many small costume solitaire pendants, KWIM? I feel that it lends authenticity to an everyday piece.

Without compensating on cut I can only go up to a 0.60 carat weight in the UK.

So I hope it's not too small, I could always get a very small halo around it made but I don't know if that will look Elegant.

I'm watching this thread with interest. I don't think 1/2 carat is too small for a diamond pendant. Pears can face up quite large and as an everyday pendant I would go simple and elegant. I'd love to have a pear pendant! I'm also in the UK but have no idea where to buy pear diamonds here.

I have seen this one, its 0.51, VS1, G in colour and excellent cut/symmetry/polish

here is the pictures

Do you have a picture? :)

Iv asked for more pictures but what do you all think of the shape

The dimensions are 7.05x4.61x2.77 so ratio is 1.52 which is excellent. Polish is v good and symmetry v good cut excellent

There is no real answer to your question as to whether a .50 carat is too small. The answer would vary with each individual and for various reasons. If you like a .50 carat and can afford it, then I guess the answer for you is, no, it's not too small. Personally, I prefer larger stones, but I certainly wouldn't purchase anything that I couldn't afford (in other words, I wouldn't buy anything that I couldn't pay cash on the spot for - I don't believe in using credit cards, payment plans, etc. for jewelry purchases).

Momhappy is correct. Recently went to Tiffany's, had my wife try on an oval yellow diamond pendant with white halo stones, it was approx .51 carats. My wife is around 5'5" and slender (122 lbs). I thought the diamond and halo were "underwhelming". I think I needed a microscope to see it, just too small. Money is always an object, but IMHO, way to small.

Is there any chance it was cut entirely too deep because it was a yellow diamond?

if you look at the "show me your pendant threads" a LOT of them are half cts

and i think they look substantial yet everyday.

And when you live in a world where half ct engagement rings are quite common, i dont see how a half ct pendant could looks small.

But when you live in a world of 2ct rings, i guess one could say they are too small.

Iv decided on a 0.50 or 0.60 carat. Now it's just finding a suitable one!

Even with the 20% VAT you might save money ordering from the States. £1400 is about $2250 and I found 9 at JA which are about the same stats and the most expensive is £950. The least expensive is about £650. I'm not a pear expert at all so I don' know how they stack up for cut, but a couple seem good in their photos!

I have a .3ish round in a bezel pendant and it's definitely not too small. I wear it very short though, on a 15 inch chain, so it hangs riiiight below the collar of my throat.

I think pear pendants are so elegant!
