Is 3 carats too big?

I don't think 3 ct will look too large on your finger. If you're used to a 11-12 mm spread, then a 9 mm will look WAAAAYYYY smaller by comparison.

I'm a size 4.75 and wear a 3.33 ct (9.8 mm)... and I would feel totally comfortable wearing a 10.5+ mm solitaire. ;-)

Is 3 carats something you would wear everyday like to the grocery store, etc.? I had my original e-ring reset in a custom setting and it came out a lot bigger than I had imagined. The original stone is about 1.35 carats and with the halo of diamonds around it it is about 11 - 12 mm across. Because of the way I had the halo designed it looks like one humongous stone unless you are directly on top of it and at very close range. Everyone who sees my ring thinks it is one gigantic stone.

For my 30th anniversary I am looking for a new solitaire. My original stone was a G/H and I’m looking to upgrade to a D, E or F. I am thinking of a 3 carat but want to know if others feel this is too large for every day? Subjective and personal decision I know but I wanted to get some forum members opinions. I don’t think I want to go below 2.6 but there is a big price difference once you get to 3.0. Since my original e-ring is not really a great stone I am afraid to make the wrong decision again. I don’t want to get something too small that I will regret because I am not looking to upgrade this in the future. Any opinions welcome and if anyone has any stone recommendations I would appreciate it.

Such a difficult and happy decision. I do wear my 3 ct ring at least once a week because I like it and because it was given to me by my late mother. However, it is rather distracting at work both for me and the people I work with. Another consideration is personal safety. I live in a place with a very low crime rate.

Not too big for me!=)2

For a while, long before I knew about the diamond people I work with now, I made a nice 22 kt. yellow gold ring with a bezel set 5 carat diamond in it. Of course I have a size 12 ring finger. I loved it, but one day I was attending a seminar and one of the speakers, who I really enjoyed, bought the diamond from my ring to give to his wife.

They lived in Texas, where as it was said earlier in this thread, everything is bigger.

At about 11mm, I was still under Dancing Fire's 12mm limit, but I think I was fairly close to my personal limit for a diamond. It is totally a personal thing. Some like bigger, some like smaller.

Are you allowed to post a photo since it’s a ring you no longer have?

I think it is best if I do not. I think even if it is within the letter of the policies, it would not be in the spirit of the policies. I would much rather enjoy the photos of the members of the board.

IMO, not too big for you. I bet you will notice the reduction in finger coverage. You said you shouldn’t care what people think but you do. I challenge you to learn more about diamonds and work on that. I think that figuring out what really matters to you away from the influence of others will help you have long term satisfaction with whatever you have. Best of luck, enjoy the process and be open to all combo of color and size and clarity. Just don’t compromise on cut.
