I am wanting an emerald cut diamond and I am struggling with the size, color - budget thing. I am a tall woman with long fingers and long finger nails. My ring size is 7 1/2. If I flank a G to H color 2 ct emerald cut diamond (L/W @1.30 - 1.40) with step cut trapezoids, do you think the ring would look significant enough on my hand? I really want a larger stone, like 2.5 to 3.0 cts., but I am not sure my pockets can go that deep. Would you try to make the stone look bigger with a halo and forgo the traps, or would you go down a grade or two in color to get a more significantly sized stone? Any ideas, suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I think a 2 carat emerald with traps on a size 7.5 finger will look fantastic with or without a halo. I think 2 carats is a beautiful size, and the traps will help cover the width of your finger. If you are worried about that being too small, I''d go try on some halo settings at local jewelers. Also, you could order some CZ''s and put them on your finger to give you an idea of what it would look like.

Ohhhh....I think an EC with a thin halo and thin band would look stunning!!

Check out the 2nd pix on this thread. It''s a halo design for a 2 carat emerald cut but desinger Maytal Hoffman & (I think) it''s HER OWN e-ring.

It''s really the only Emerald Cut in a halo I''ve seen that "works" to my eye -- sometimes they come out clunky.

Her prices are rumored to be reasonable too!

Personally, I like an "H" color in step cuts 1.5 & up ... maybe even "G" at the 2 carat mark. Step cuts show SO MUCH more color than well-cut rounds. "I" would be the highest I''d go - EXCEPT in a vintage Asscher (Square Emerald).

I would go down a couple grades in color and get a larger stone! I just got a J and it is in a cut that doesn''t hide color (like EC don''t) well and I would NOT call it yellow... though I would call it antique white. I love it. No, I *prefer* it over the more clear/white stones. Everyone''s different though... and for a bigger stone - oh yeah you betcha I''d go down in color! LOL I think the D ''perfection'' is kinda old school anyway... nothing wrong with a D but I don''t see it as *better* than a K - just different.

I think it depends on the setting... if you set it with a halo you''d pretty much have to go more colorless for it to look right with the rounds... but in a somewhat antiquey setting I think the lower color would be awesome! I duno about with traps though, they''re a pretty modern shape! If the traps and halo interest are indications of the desire for a modern setting then I agree with deco to keep it in a higher color.
