Is a 2MM band setting too small?

Hi,

I found a setting I really like for my girlfriend for her engagement ring but i have been reading that 2mm are consider thin for band settings. Is 2mm too small or is this pretty standard as far as the band goes? She has a size 4 finger for reference. The link to the actual band is below.

Thanks.

Hi - personally I do not think so. My ring finger is size 4.25 and both my e-ring and band are 2mm, give or take 0.1 mm (measured with calipers). For me it's perfect as it hits the sweet spot. I have other rings that are as thin as 1.3mm that are for the more "delicate" look but those are not everyday rings. My jeweler had advised no thinner than 1.5mm for the sake of "sturdiness." Best advice I can say is for her to try on various band types to see what she is comfortable with (though I know that may be difficult for many reasons). For me it was not just about the band width but also the shank type that I wanted to specify. For example would she prefer wearing round wire versus comfort fit?

I have a JA setting which has a 2MM band and wear a size 7 ring. Although the 2mm is petite on my hand, it's very pretty.

Congratulations in advance!

We usually say dont go below 2mm. In the past its been the cut off.

Love the head and the NSEW prongs on this setting.

I believe my ER shank is 2.0mm wide.
My WR is slightly wider around 2.2mm-2.5mm.
I’m a size 5.5. My rings are a size 6 for stacking.

Lovely setting! I have a size 4.25 ring finger and my engagement ring from JA is a tapered band measuring 2 mm. I think it looks appropriately proportioned on my finger and I like the delicate appearance. It also really highlights the center stone!

Would you mind sharing a photo of your setting, just interested to see another of that size as well. Thanks!

Hi rjl5108, I have a 3 stone setting so I attached a side view of the band so you could get a sense of sizing. Hope this helps!

I've worn many 2mm settings with no issues. Beautiful setting you chose!

2mm is good.

For me personally, it will be too narrow as I have chubby fingers and do not like the look of bulging flesh on both sides.

I prefer the shank to be 4mm at the top for plain shanks.
