Is anyone looking for a nice blue spinel?

Looks like a nice spinel. Don't you want it?

I'm totally clueless when it comes to using the Pre-loved section and DB, but, if I'm not mistaken, there is a whole ring posted there with a beautiful blue spinel, for not that much more than this ebay stone. But nicer...

Has anyone bought from this vendor? Are his pics true to life? His prices seem to be better than Tan's recent ones.

The question about the vendor has come up before. the last time I checked, his feedback on toolhaus was not good, not good at all. I've never had the nerve to buy from him because of it. :(sad :(

But I agree - the one on DB looks to be a more saturated blue

I bought a blue-to-pinkish red color change garnet from him a few months back. It was better in person than in the pictures. Really nice guy, very formal. For whatever it's worth. :) But the stone in question sold sometimes between the OP and this reply.

I've dealt with Jeff many times. I saw an Amethyst on his site that I liked, and he told me that he makes custom jewelry, for a better price then what I can have made here in the USA. He told me he can work within my budget. I gave him my budget, and he created a pendant in 18K for me..and it showed excellent workmanship. I've posted it before, so I won't post it again (unless someone wants to see it). Ironically I sold it , only because while beautiful, I decided it was 'too much/too much bling" for me. Not his fault, as I told him how I wanted it made :-)

Since then, Ive bought some great gems from him...a really nice Rubellite, much better cutting then what you normally see...much better than "native" cutting, close to USA Precision cutting I'd say. I also bought a killer Chrome Diposide. In addition, I sent him some pictures of my Diamond ring (I am unhappy with its design, and want to change the stones) and he quoted me an excellent price to do the changeover.

He has been nothing but responsive, very easy to work with, honest, fair...you name it. I have a hard time believing anything negative about him, and would reccomend him above almost any other Ebayer out there. Its a shame someone read a negative review and now crossed him off the list. Don't forget minous, people are quick to complain, and not always as quick to poste a positive review. That is why I almost never pay attention to reviews unless something jumps out at me, like consistantly bad ratings. I would not let a few pissed off people, possibly complainers who are never satisfied, cross a great vendor off your list. Then again, if you don't buy from him, there is more opportunity for myself :-) But seriously, Jeff Davies is a wonderful guy to work with, with excellent quality well-cut stones.

Well said.

I've bought from Jeff and I agree that his stones look better in person than his photos. As far as his toolhaus rating, he hasn't received any negatives since 2010 and only three neutrals in 2011, so I wouldn't consider that bad feedback.

Toolhaus ratings are dubious. It is one thing if someone says that the stone is misrepresented, the color is different, it is a synthetic. But if I see, "did not receive on time", to me, it is not necessarily a negative rating.

I wish he used videos, he has been on the ebay long enough and seems to be consistent. I once wanted to buy from him (a large peridot, if I am not mistaken) and he came across as pleasant, prompt and formal, but I held off because I did not know whether to trust his pictures or not.

A lurker must have snagged it while we were busy discussing the vendor's rating. :cheeky:

Hopefully he will get out of lurkdom and post the photo so that we see how Jeff's stones look IRL... ;)) It would be very helpful.

Hey gang,

I'm the lurker here - figured since Upgradable had posted it for discussion rather than as her own potential acquisition, all was fair... Uppy, if that's not the case, I'd be happy to return the gem (once it arrives) and let you know!

For what it's worth, the seller has so far been very professional and willing to discuss the stone and its' fellows. I'll be testing it on arrival, and checking it out with a local gemologist who's got more equipment than I... I'll be sure to post pics once it arrives, and we'll see!

Cheers,

C

Oooh...good catch CM366! Looking forward to seeing your photos :))

I've bought from Jeff in the past too - also a rubellite. The stone is very nice IRL and well cut. I think that he would sell a lot more if he posted videos on his listings. Good luck with the purchase and please share pics!

:appl: :appl: :appl: I was just posting in case someone was looking. I'm so happy one of our PSers jumped on it! Please, let us know what you think once it arrives.

Ok, I had to do it...

This is a custom pendant Jeff did for me...it started when I saw this Amethyst on his ebay site..I bought the stone, we got to talking, and he ended up making it for me. Its 18kWG, and the top stone is a Spessartite Garnet. At first I was surprised...when I asked him to do a smaller round garnet on top of the Amethyst, I thought for sure he was going to put a red, or purplish red one in there to compliment the purple amethyst. I was shocked to see that orange garnet. But it really popped and complimented the amethyst in a way I didnt think it would. I'd respect his judgement now 100%.

Good reaction time, cm366. :) I hope your boldness will be rewarded. Good blue spinels are so hard to find! Best of luck with the stone. :)

Do let us know how the stone checks out IRL compared to his pictures.

Some of you people are very brave when it comes to Ebay gems. I have yet to buy a gemstone from a ( Ebay) seller in another country. I know you've had good experiences. But I would be worried about returns.

Hello everybody, thanks for the kind words and especially Chrissa222 for your support, @CM366 , I am sure you will be happy with the Spinel and look forward to seeing your response. In the meantime if anyone has any questions for me, please fire away!

cheers

Jeff.

Well I had crossed Jeff Davis off my list a while ago because of the negative comments, but I'm always happy to try new vendors. I've always thought his stones looked nice, but there were a number of negative feedbacks for a while saying that the stones were not as as photos indicated. I'm glad those are gone. His cutting is good.

Jeff,
Welcome to PS and just as an FYI, please inform the moderators you are in the Trade and I think you can change your status to Trade in the Login settings. Don't want you to get in trouble on your first day/post here.

OK Chrono, I think i just changed it , thanks

Hello all,

The stone arrived last night but it was too dark to get a good look - it's definitely a little underwhelmed by the dim CFLs we have around the place. Pulled it out today for a look and some better pics - the colour is very nice, much the same blue as in the vendor's photos, although to my eyes there's a little bit of green as well. The stone does prefer sunlight and shade, like every other blue spinel I've actually had the chance to handle it doesn't perform as well as fine sapphire indoors, but the price was fantastic and the stone is everything I hoped for. Nicely cut and very fine luster - the challenge with these photos was mostly to keep from getting all 'flash' and no stone! The vendor shipped FedEx without charging extra for it, and was happy to discuss an offer I made for two other stones as well (I'll put up all three in the vendor photos thread, so as not to overload this one). Overall, I'd have to say it was an excellent experience buying from jeffdvs101, and I'd do so again.

(And thanks again, Uppy, for the steer!)

:wavey: My pleasure! He has such nice looking stones in his store.

The last shade picture is pretty. Would love a sunshine picture if possible. Actually, the more pics the better.
