Is anyone wearing their hair down?

I planned to wear my hair down like this until I did a trial two days before the wedding and the curl fell within a half hour in the Mexican humidity. I was shocked at how quickly it happened, especially since I have curly/wavy hair.

HouseCat how long is your hair? Curly or straight? What kind of styles did you have in mind? And what is your dress like?
Hi Porridge,

Here is a photo of me (no face, sorry) in my gown. Sorry for the silly pose, I was trying to be funny

. My hair is really basic, bangs and straight. It's a little bit longer now. I'm hoping it will be a few inches longer by the wedding in April. I was thinking a cathedral lenth veil with body on the top, like Jennifer Aniston's. What do you think? I won't wear my hair so straight for the wedding, but I don't think I'm going to go for a ton of curls either.

House Cat, I love you hair. I wish I could pull off that look but I can't do straight bangs.

ETA: I just noticed the similarity in your gown and the one in my hair inspiration pic. Do you think it's the same? I have more photos of that bride; gonna check...

I wore my hair down and I LOVED it! I have a wedding thread around here somewhere, but I can''t find it.

My stylist put in hair extensions, which were awesome. They didn''t really make my hair that much longer, but they did make it fuller.

The first picture is right when she was finishing my hair, probably around 7 AM, and the second was taken after our reception, so it was probably around 7 PM. You can see that my hair definitely deflated after all that dancing, but I love both looks.

I chose to wear my hair down because I don''t think I look like myself with it up, and I tend to think women look more beautiful with their hair down, anyway. It''s all personal preference, though. I know my DH preferred it down, too.
WOW! Haven, you were absolutely stunning! I love the idea of extensions to add fullness. I would have never thought of that in a million years. Here I''ve been worried about my ultra fine hair going stringy by the middle of the evening, and now the problem is solved! Yay!

I love your veil too! It is so perfect with your hair down. I like the idea of wearing my hair down because I really want to feel like myself, but a little different. See, my problem is, most of the time my hair is in a ponytail. So, if I wear my hair up, I will look like I do every day, except I might have a fancy bun instead of the usual. That''s no good for the wedding day.

Thanks for the pics Haven!

Oh Robbie, I love your hair too! You were such a knock out bride! Your dress was an absolute dream!!

The more I see these photos, the more I feel resolved in this decision. Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it. I have the worst time making decisions, so help in this department is always dearly appreciated.

I''m surprised by the number of people wearing their hair down! Have you chosen a veil yet? As I mentioned to Porridge, I think I''m going to have to use a veil that is fuller on top. Are you leaning this way too? What about hair accessories? Are you using any?

I love this bride''s hair. She didn''t wear a veil though.
She looks like Faith Hill!

By the way House Cat, your dress is divine! Please tell me who did it and the name of your dress, please please!

Oh, she DOES look like Faith Hill!!! I didn''t even realize that.

Thank you for the compliment on my gown! It''s by La Sposa, and its name is Fano. It''s from the 2009 line.

Thank you. You''re so sweet! It''s funny, I love side swept bangs or no bangs, but I can''t pull those off.

I love the inspiration pic you posted. The flower is so beautiful. Her dress is very similar, but I don''t think it''s the same. My dress has lines running down the skirt. This photo is so great because it gives me perspective on how my gown will look with my hair down. Thank you for sharing it.

I loved your hair at your wedding, btw. I loved your entire wedding, to be honest. After watching the slideshow, and making FI watch your slideshow, I seriously considered ditching my wedding, deposits and all for Mexico!

I wore my hair down (link to wedding photos). It''s naturally curly, but I hate the way it curls, so I blew it out smooth and straight first. Then, my hair lady put rollers in. It was in the rollers for about two hours while my nails and makeup were done, then sprayed within an inch of its life! It barely budged for over 12 hours.

Housecat, if i had your hair i would be wearing it down too!! It''s gorgeous.

Haven! You are a stunner!!! I havn''t seen a pic of you before, but you made such a gorgeous bride!! Do you have a linky to some more of your wedding pics?

Anyhoo, I really like the hair down look, but I guess you have to be creative when sticking your veil in? It really does look romantic. I am having half up half down, but it''s really only the front and fringe area pinned back, so it looks full and down from the back too I think.

Haven, I probably haven't said this nearly as many times as I have thought it, but I think you are one of the most beautiful PS brides I have seen. You are so naturally beautiful anyway, so it was mostly easy for you, but I remember being so surprised that you were getting hair extensions because I couldn't imagine you needing any help on your wedding day!

Do you mind telling me a little bit about them? Did you buy them or just borrow them? How did they match your hair colour--were there tons of different ones to choose from? Were they worth the money? I am not sure if they would be affordable for me, but my hair is very fine and also very thin, and will definitely look stringy and not very nice in photos, unless I run off to brush it every 10 minutes, which would seriously cramp my partying, y'know?

Aw, you guys are so sweet. Thank you.

Gwennie--You have me seriously blushing over here, weetie!
I''d love to share about my hair extensions. First, I''ll just say that whatever they actually looked like, they made me feel unbelievably glamorous, so that made them worth every single penny right there. Anyway . . .

- My hairstylist bought them from her supply store and then just charged me what they cost, so I didn''t have to do any of the shopping for them or anything. She said that they come in every color imaginable, and after our trial she went out on her own and bought what she thought matched my hair best.

- They matched my hair perfectly, as far as I could tell. I have plain old dark brown hair, and I couldn''t tell which was mine and which was fake.

- My hair is super thin, too, even though I have a lot of it, and the extensions made it feel and look much thicker, which was awesome. I get the stringy look, too, especially after dancing and getting all sweaty!

- My stylist glued in the extensions, and then gave me a little bottle of oily stuff to use to pull them out. I took them out the day after the wedding, and it was super easy, they just slipped right out once I put the oil on them. (I did wear them the entire day after the wedding, though, and they looked amazing!)

- The total cost for my hair (which included the style and the extensions) was around $150, I can''t remember exactly. I know this is MUCH less than most stylists charge, especially if you hire them through a salon.

I found my amazing stylist through a Craigslist ad, so she worked independently, and she was incredible. I think she only charged $60 (maybe less) to do each bridesmaid''s hair, and she was wonderful on the day of the wedding. She''s amazing. I hope she''s still doing hair when my sister gets married in 2011, because I want those extensions again!

I actually bought a set of the Jessica Simpson extensions right before our honeymoon because I wanted to wear extensions again, after having such a great experience with them on our wedding day. They are clip-in, so they definitely didn''t feel as secure as the glued in extensions, and they itched my head after a while, while the glued in ones didn''t feel like anything at all. BUT, those clip-ins are PERFECT for a night out when I want to feel super sexy.
11.gif

Bottom line: See if you can find an independent stylist in your area who will only charge you the cost of the extensions. It is so worth it. (Although with your cheekbones, darling, I imagine ANY hairstyle looks amazing on you.)

Haven,, thank you so much for answering my questions so thoroughly! And for your sweet comment about my cheekbones, hehe!

I have a friend back home who is a great hair stylist, so maybe she can help me out with extensions (didn''t think of that until just now), and I''ll also look into independent hair stylists here in the UK too. If they make me feel even half as glamorous as you felt (and looked!) in yours, then I''d love to have some for both my UK wedding and my US reception. My hair is one of the main things I worry about when thinking about how I''ll look, and this would be something I''d be prepared to splurge a bit for.

Thank you!

I had my hair down with curls (hair curled was down my back already-so no veil) and just a simple tiara. I love the look, my sister did half up beautiful with flowers in all over, I think its a fantastic look.

Sounds like what I''ll be doing. Not sure why I never thought to do that. Thanks Kittybean!
