Is color more/less important for center stone in halo???

Been looking for a while, and thought I was going to get a RB 1.5 I color stone which I assume my SO will be setting in a halo after the proposal. But once I started looking at some halo rings I noticed that most of the halo stone would be f/g based on the places that I've looked and I'm worried that this will make the cernter stone too colored if it's an I.

On the other hand, my initial reasoning was that if the stone were to be set in a halo it would not be seen much (if at all) from the side and therefore the I color stone would not be as noticable if it were primarily viewed face up.

So now I can't decide if I should go with a 1.5ct I, or a 1.25ct F or G.

Any opinios or experience in this subject would be greatly apprecited (pictures are great too!)

I asked similar questions not long ago and was advised to go to my local jewelry store and ask to see diamonds with varied grades of color to see how much yellow I can tolerate in a diamond. I'm not sure if the setting would make a difference but maybe the experts could chyme in on this subject. Good Luck!

Maybe so because a halo blocks some of the side view.

Body color is most noticeable in a side view.

I've seen some halos where although the colors are diff, it's barely noticeable. Maybe that's due to your point about the pavilion being hidden. Either way, I'm a girl that's big on size so I wouldn't trade down so easily... Definitely go to a jeweler and ask them to place a loose stone in one of thir halos to see how it looks...I actually think it might look ok but it all depends on your color sensitivity.

I just saw a halo with a J color center stone yest, and although the stone was a smaller stone thn yours, it looked great! I've also read on PS that some members had custom halos made with lower colors to match the center stone.

I think the 1.5 I would be okay. If you are using large point stones in the halo, then it would be a more pronounced contrast. But with the smaller pointers that most people are picking today, I don't think you'd notice a huge color difference. If you look at vintage rings on ebay, you'll see a lot of J and L or M centers set in platinum or WG with very white sidestones. It might be possible to order the mounting specially made with, say, H/I color stones, too.

I think you could go with the 1.50. But honestly that is a personal preference that only you can really answer. What is your budget? We may be able to help you find something.

I agree with the others you should see if there are any places you can go and see if they have an I color stone (a well cut one) they can drop in a setting. We see all sorts of halo combinations here on PS. There are plenty of antique stones here that are way past I being set in halos and I think it's just going to come down to personal preference. Melee stones are so tiny, I think they just handle light a bit differently (if you read through the thread posted) and are generally going to look like little bright white spots. Larger stones are going to vary a lot depending on the lighting and environment and my guess is they are always going to have some sort of difference in appearance to the melee.

As a compromise between going smaller if size is important, and if an I might be too far down the scale, why not look at an H stone and see if you can't get as close as you can to 1.5 that way? I don't know what clarity you are looking at, but there may be some leeway there also. You ought not need something like VVS1 for clarity but I don't know what your parameters are. A really well cut stone is the main area not to give even a little bit on.

Here's an H color stone in a halo with G/H melee sitting next to an M OEC stone:
