I know the cut quality can affect this, but in general is "I" color too yellow for a platinum setting?

I think each person views colour differently. I don''t think an ''I'' is too yellow, in fact I have a ''J'' colour in Platinum.

Have a look at this thread - its got lots of ''J'' colours in Platinum to give you an idea.

Ditto Maisie, I assume it is a well cut round diamond and lab graded by GIA etc, it should be fine! Individual colour perception can vary, however a reliably graded I colour is fine by most people. It is best though to check some out for yourself to make sure, if you have doubts - but- many here have I and J diamonds set in plat who are delighted with them, see the thread Maisie linked for examples.

I don''t know if this helps or not, but my wedding ring is a J Marquise. No hint of warmth whatsoever. I have had it for almost 27 years.

If it''s a well-cut stone, then no, it won''t be yellow and you''ll have no problem in a platinum setting.

that''s really a question of preference. Some people love the warm look, some people hate it, some people can''t even tell the difference. I suggest going and finding out which person you are.

I have an I in platinum and it''s so white. It really depends on the cut of the stone.

I think that a reliable graded I stone from either GIA or AGA,

will look absolutely white in Platinum. But the stone must be well-cut either Excellent or maybe Very Good.

It also depends on the size of the stone. I just got a .76ct ACA ''J'' from WF set in WG and I cannot see any yellow at all. In bigger stones I can see the color much more easily. Not to say a well-cut ''I'' would look yellow though by any means.

I think I will look great in plat!

I also have an I in PLT (and it is an EC which show more color than RB) I think it looks nice and white.

Thanks everyone. That opens up my options a little $-wise.

FWIW, Tiffany places their I stones in Platinum

Hi rmill9681,

I am delighted you are considering I''s.

When I started looking at diamonds I only wanted a D, I wish I had had the ''open-minded-ness'' (

) to look at these stones, esp. with flour. DH has been given my diamond wishlish which now includes a great big honking round (I-M with flour). They are yummy!

Will you report back to let us (me) know where you are planning to go with this?

My EC is a K/L color and is set in platinum and I get tons of compliments on it when I do wear it. I would say that you have nothing to worry about with your I!
