I apologize if this post is long....
I''ve been with my boyfriend officially since January. By about a month into the relationship he kept bringing up marriage. I was always anti marriage until I met him. In May/June we bought a setting for a ring that I saw at a mall store that was on sale. All he needed was a diamond. He told my friends and eventually let it slip to me that he was going to propose on our vacation the first week of October. We set the date, booked the venue, put a deposit on the cake, etc. Then about 2 weeks before the vacation he told me he couldn''t afford the diamond just yet. I was fine with that--the vacation was expensive--so I understood. Until he went out and bought video games and new shoes, etc.....um I thought you had no money for a ring!
A week after the vacation he came to me super super excited--a friend of his had taken money out of his 401K to pay for his gf''s ring and he had just done the same thing. (I wasn''t too happy about this, btw---but he was so excited about it). He went on a pricescope vendor site and purchased one of the diamonds I had given as possible contenders. Apparently the one he picked had something wrong with (Thankfully the seller was honest and let us know). So back to the drawing board. I told him to pick whatever diamond he liked--I didn''t want to be too involved in this part as I wanted to be surprised.
About a week ago he told me in the car that he had the ring, and knew how he was proposing. I was hesitant to believe him...I know where he hid the setting and knew that the ring wasn''t complete.
The other night we were watching MTV and they had that We''re getting married, True Life show on. My BF actually almost cried during the Paris proposal scene.
Yesterday we went together to pick up some food, and out of the blue he told me he kinda regretted that he had told me he was going to propose and that he gave me a time frame for when he was going to propose because he wanted it to be a surprise and he wanted to pick the ring all by himself. I told him he could always trade in the ring we already have and just surprise me with a ring he loves. He said no, he loves that ring, too. He said he wanted the proposal to be perfect and he wanted it to be a surprise and he wanted me to cry. Which is sweet...I tried to assure him that I would probably cry, and I''m sure I would be surprised.
So anyways, I just wanted to say....ladies, maybe it''s not the best idea to get a time frame to find out if he is going to propose--because I''m really disappointed that it hasn''t officially happened yet (a month overdue from his original proposal time frame) and now he''s a bit upset that it wasn''t some huge surprise. Which is sweet.
I know it will eventually happen, but every day that goes by I start to get resentful (especially if he buys something...). I wish I didn''t feel that way...so I guess I''m on the same side he is. I wish he hadn''t told me he wanted to propose.....
