almost daily, i have to listen to my coworkers'' loud burps, do they think i can''t hear them?!

i know it''s not a guy thing, i''ve been with FI for years and he''s only burped out loud that way less than a handful of times

do you think it''s their diet?

For me its only OK to burp out loud when I'm alone. Its nasty to burp in front of others.

Yes, but only if you''re an 8 year old boy impressing his friends on the playground.

(Gross!)

I believe in some cultures, burping out loud in a restaurant indicates that you appreciate the food that the chef has prepared for you.

I think its ok in private. In public, gross.

hahaha, ditto!

.... Well I do it. I do have a friend that FREAKS out when someone burps or farts so she can hear it. As far as burps, if I''m with friends, whatever, I will burp if I have to.

I find it really gross to have to listen to other peoples body noises.

Only if you are in an official burping contest...one that gives a prize.

And yes, in some cultures burping is acceptable, but where it isn''t, people should keep it under control.

Obviously there are exceptions for people with medical issues (a friend of mine is like that, and is very conerned with making it through her vows next summer without burping), but if it''s just poor manners, I don''t think it should be done in public.

In one word, no.

I do it in front of FI. And then I smile sweetly and say "that was for you"

Also do it in front of close friends and family.

But NEVER in public! DEFINITELY not at work!

It is a bodily function so yes, everyone must burp. There is no need to burp loudly. There has been many times that a big loud burp could have easily come out, but you let them out easily with no noise because no one wants to hear that.

I don''t at work..well, if I''m alone with my front desk coworker I do, but quietly. But we''re a lot alike so it doesn''t bother either of us. I do it in front of family. I do it in front of my bff..if it''s her or JD I burp and then say "ooo there''s a kiss for ya". I don''t burp in patients faces or try to say the abc''s when I''m burping.

I think it is horribly inappropriate at work. The supervising attorney''s whose office is next to mine burps often and LOUDLY. It is so disgusting. Whenever he does it, he will follow it by something such as, "Oh Kevin, you pig." That does not make it ok.

Of course, I don''t even want to talk about what I hear coming from the other supervising attorney''s office.

My husband does something similar.

He burps loudly and then says "Radianquest, I can''t believe you." In one of those voices. Another thing he does is burp and blow it in my face!. So disgusting! He isn''t being mean, he thinks it is cute. He will burp quietly and blow so that I don''t know that it is coming. As soon as I smell the burp I look over and he is grinning like a little kid. He treats me well so many other ways that I let these things go.

We all have our ways of dealing with natural body functions. Depending on what culture a person grew up with - there are different standards.

Thinking about it - I guess I tend to burp out loud unless there is a specific reason to contain it (a specific reason to be very quite). Of course, most of my burps are rather small and not that noisy. I try not to do the very loud and long burps that sometimes occur unless I am alone or at home.

I am also not offended by other people''s body noise. It''s just a fact of nature - so why get offended?

Just as ok as to fart out loud!

luckily i didn''t need to hear the burping today because my coworkers went out to eat, thank goodness!

Well, sometimes it just comes out, but I always excuse myself afterward! I tend to let loose a little more often in front of my husband to gross him out though.

there''s burping and then there''s burping.. you know? I don''t care if people burp but if they make it louder than it needs to be or make a show of it (unless they''re really trying to be funny and they better not make every burp fall to that standard)... but I dunno, I am not hung up about the things that make us human. I know american culture has us all trying to be as above human as possible but we really aren''t and put us in a room alone and you see our true nature come out.

Maybe I don't drink soda or it's just atypical, but I am not blessed with this ability to burp. Maybe if I chugged seltzer intentionally, it would happen!

No one where I work ever burps. I can't imagine it happening. Maybe they're all uptight! I should tell them to loosen up a little.

DH doesn't burp - except once in a blue moon when he can't help it. And then he looks horrified because I crack up. I only think it's hilarious because it happens so rarely and when it does, he acts mortified because he's not a burper or a farter...at least not when I'm around. And we're really close, so maybe he's just trying to keep the romance alive? LOL. I grew up with a brother, so I know for a fact guys burp and fart a lot. Maybe just not around us? Can you imagine what sports night must be like when the guys get together? How do they see the TV through the fog of gas?

Gross! Belching intentionally is just plain rude in my book. If it slips out, that''s another story, but you should say excuse me after at least.

I''m kind of uptight about this stuff, though. FI and I are not one of those free-farting, peeing-with-the-door-open couples.

This thread is totally cracking me up

Honestly, I would rather have my head spontaneously POP-OFF, than let any personal noxious gasses escape around other people!

I have a girlfriend who is married to the gassiest man on the planet. He thinks it''s "cute" to give her the Dutch Oven (he farts in bed, and holds her head UNDER the covers to smell it! ICK!) I would castrate my fiance if he ever tried that with me

Gross. Never in public. Quietly in home if it has to happen.

I''m not offended by bodily stuff. Just grossed out by some of it.

I work in an office with two men. One is just GROSS.
Burps. Farts. Loudly. And it smells.
He also scratches himself -- even while talking to me.

It''s just like passing gas... If you can''t help it, please at least try to be discreet... and apologize afterwards.

o.k. to burp out loud and fart at the same time, otherwise NO!!
