I was wondering if it''s OK to wear a diamond ring all the time or if it should be taken off for certain occasions such as swimming or going to the gym. Can it get damaged in salt or chlorinated water? How easily does a diamond stone scratch - do you have to be careful about this? I''m not worried about it falling off (it''s a tight fit) i just don''t want to damage the stone.

I would wear it all the time and enjoy it. But if it was costly enough that you wouldn''t want to or couldn''t afford to replace it, I would insure it. For me, that takes the worry out of it. My insurance is about 400 plus per
year, and I insured a 2.57 ct stone, if that give you and idea.

I would wear it. I do mine all the time but for when I shower and go to bed at night, and then sometimes I find myself waking up in the morning with it still on my finger. But it''s a diamond, so there for it''s tough!

for me 24/7 - never with harsh cleaning chemicals or heavy lifting though.

Well, mine comes off the minute I get home. I won''t wear it when I''m swimming as it can easily slip off and you may not even realize, even with a tight fit. Also, depending on the metal and if there''s pave, I''d be careful with heavy lifting and chlorine.

Then again, I also don''t wear mine all the time anyway. Not your typical PS''er

I take mine off for bed and put it on again after I shower, and I will not wear it for dishes or heavy lifting. I started doing this when I discovered how quickly the metal gets smacked to heck and how quickly the diamond gets filthy

But as long as it is insured, then wear it all the time if it floats your boat.

I usually don''t wear it at home bc I am ALWAYS aware of it when it is on my hand, and I am very careful with my hands when it is on. I feel more "free" when I only have on my platinum band :)

I am also a 24/7 wearer except for cleaning, swimming and gardening. My understanding is that chlorine can cause pitting and discoloration in some metals so for chemicals, hot tub or swimming I take them off. I also will take them off for showering if I remember just because I hate cleaning them and they get soap scum residue in them easily. Dish soap, like Dawn will get them nice and clean.

ditto!

I don''t wear any of my jewelry at home except my plain platinum wedding band. I don''t feel comfortable with all my stuff on at home. Plus when I used to wear my ering all the time I was constantly hitting it on everything. But I agree with everyone else, if it''s insured you should do whatever you want!

I wear my ring all the time, except for during a shower and exposure to chlorine and other harsh chemicals. Especially chlorine - can discolor or pit metal and stones.

What about salt water? I live in Hawaii...

I have to wear my diamond rings every day......I don''t feel dressed with out my bling!

I wear mine all the time.
Expect for dishes and when I do nails - the filing dust and my ring don''t mix.

I wear mine 24/7 for 30 years!

I wear mine ALLL the time. I will take it off when cleaning with chemicals. or if I have just had it cleaned and want to keep it extra sparkly longer

I take mine off for cooking, dishes, the shower and take it off at night.

I wear mine all the time, with the exception of taking it off to shower and clean it.

I wear mine all the time except for showering and sleeping.

I dont wear mine when doing anything that could hurt it, well more likely hurt the gold. Chlorine can damage the gold and my jeweler said the worst thing you can do to the rings is wear them at night. Apparently the constant rubbing on the sheets can wear the gold down, over years of course.

So it comes off when I get home.

Another 24/7 here except for showers.

I wear mine all the time when I''m out, but I take it off for showers, when I cook, and when I sleep. I don''t wear it swimming because I''m afraid it will slip off, and I don''t wear it to the beach because the saltwater makes it SO dirty! Sometimes I take it off when I''m home by myself and I just leave on my plain wedding band to walk around my apartment.

Only off for showers, cooking (when my hands require getting messy) and cleaning.

At first, I wore my e-ring all the time: I''ve gradually tapered down into the habit of removing it for: sleep, cooking, cleaning, jewelry-making and working out. All of these are activities that will either put it as risk of harm or dirtying, so ... why? That said, you CAN wear it for all of those things (though I wouldn''t clean using ammonia based products if the ring is white gold, and I wouldn''t lift weights with it on if it were a pave band). Also, the wedding band? That doesn''t come off. Ever.

For those who say 24/7, would you wear it swimming or frolicking in the ocean?

That would petrify me, I can completely see it coming off.

I wear it all the time. The only time I take it off is when I do weight-lifting at the gym. Then, I put in on a necklace so I don''t leave it in my locker. This was at the advice of my jeweler, since the bands can bend out of shape over time. I am in the gym several times a week, so this makes sense to me. I also have sizing beads on the insides of my rings, which tend to hurt during heavy grips so it works out well.

If I''m doing light lifting, I just use my workout gloves on top of the rings.

I do wear mine swimming and frolicking in the ocean

Ditto.

ETA: And no to swimming and frolicking in the ocean. This is more because I don't want it getting all gunked up with sunscreen than out of fear of it floating away.

I wear mine alll the time. I just got them redipped to match the new guard. I take it off only when I make some food home made that is a hot mess (ie rolling fondant or making bbq ribs :) )
