or are many bands made in China?

i know with clothing and other items, it can be a red flag but not necessarily.

is the same true for rings?

F5FDEC32-1202-4174-9151-AEA1516E5042.jpeg I actually have a diamond ring that says that and I love it. I bought it cheaply. Estate. So I didn’t care. I just liked the style. The diamonds are not PS quality but not so bad. It is the 5 stone halo on the right. It is sturdy and well made.

The vast majority of “cast settings” ie jewellery you buy in Mall shops is made in China.
You do have to be wary though, there is a trend (eBay, online offers) to falsely hallmark jewellery either 925 silver or even 14kt gold. A closer look at the setting quality usually gives it away, as does the price. The problem is people say in the US buying them and then reselling, some people mightn’t twig to the fact that they are just “costume jewellery” from China.
I have personally bought a few ring mounts made in China, from reputable Chinese sellers.
They are well priced ie cheap, but they are a little on the “lightweight side” re gold and if diamond set, expect low quality.
That said, I bought a 14kt rose gold diamond set ring mount (over 100 tiny diamonds) and in 3 years regular wear, not one has “popped out” so I’m pretty impressed.

I use a trusted eBay seller for my custom made rings with no reported issues.
I got what I paid for as I did wish to spend disproportionate amount on the settings.

DK :))

Red flag for what? I have always believed that You get what you gotta pay for. If I don’t pay much I don’t really expect it to last or the quality to be comparable to my pieces from Victor Canera or Whiteflash. That’s my theory anyway. So no flag As long as the price is commensurate with the quality of the piece.

IMO, all Chinese products are poorly made... you get what you paid for.

Have to say I disagree with you there DF. The stuff you can buy online is $hi+e, however, the rings and other jewellery my wife and I have from there that is made to order is on par with what we have bought as custom pieces here in Australia or from BGD.

In particular, the craftsmanship on 24k gold there is exceptional.

All depends on who you purchase from.

I see what you did there.....

I thought that term was more of an English/Scottish thing, not an Oz saying - who knew!

I should have also added to the above, if I dared to try telling my wife that she was poorly made because she was Made in China, I have a feeling I’d be sleeping outside on the grass.

@Lorelei , I do a mean Scottish English accent.

I don’t think it is a particularly Aussie saying, because I’m the only one amongst my friends who would use it! Maybe older Aussies might still use it in light hearted banter(?).

And you would richly deserve it.:naughty::lol:

It's such a lovely saying though, shame to waste it and not use it when it's so descriptive....

as an aside, where are the "house" settings and bands usually made from reputable dealers such as Brian Gavin, WF, James Allen, GOG, etc.?

even designer rings like Tacori, Vatche and Benchmark?

is there any way of ever really knowing?

My understanding is the “house” settings from BG and Whiteflash are made in Houston. Not sure about JA or GOG (other are likely to know).

I would say it really is the who what where when and whys of how you buy. I have pieces made in china, but I bought them in china...where i was able to feel the material and havea conversation with the seller of what i bought. They list very explicitly what the weight a piece is, the price per gram of gold that day, the price for the workmanship, etc. Also there are brands i trust explicitly, no questions asked about quality and workmanship.

Would i buy the exact same pieces online? Yes, if it were a particular brands website and i had contact with their corporate headquarters. If i were buying from an individual? I'd have to think about it and be sure its a trusted seller or there is a guaranteed no hassle return policy.

I was gonna say that I would only have an issue with any ex that was made in China. :lol-2:
