Is my Neil Lane ring from Kay Jewelers real or not?

To add to the mess and confusion... Maker’s marks can be removed during sizing and repolishing, depends on where they we’re inside the shank and how deeply they were etched.

I’m thinking there was a communication lapse between OP and her fiancé.
The actual ring she has is exactly the same as the $1799 one Kay sells.
OP may well have fallen for the similar looking Neil Lane ring with the 1/3 carat diamond centre but wanted a larger 1/2 diamond centre. It’s not a simple swap to put a 1/2 carat into the space a 1/3 carat sat so it may well be the fiancé decided to buy the setting, non Neil Lane, that had a 1/2 carat already set in it.
So there possibly wasn’t another “no name ring” with a 1/2 carat centre that was bought to swap into the Neil Lane setting.
I imagine the salesperson suggested that the process of buying another ring and swapping the centre into the Neil Lane ring not entirely feasible and also expensive whereas “this ring here is just like it with a 1/2 carat already in it“ and bonus, it’s a lot cheaper than the Neil Lane ring.

@bearsnbeets Can you post a profile picture of your ring? I don't see any generic Kay ring on their website that has the same side profile as the Neil Lane ring.

If your fiancé bought both rings to harvest the 1/2 ct center stone from the Kay ring to put into the Neil Lane ring the total he spent would be around $3600 (not including tax). But the Neil Lane ring alone, even with the 1/2 ct center stone, would not appraise for that. In theory it would appraise for a bit more than it's list price with the 1/3 ct center stone.

I'm guessing you are probably correct and when she figured it out she no longer needs our help. As long as they got what they actually paid for and chose then that's probably the end of the story. Of course if we are wrong, then I hope we hear more from OP so we can help her resolve the issue.
