My favorite day dreaming topic is what to set in my old ering setting. I would like it to be a nicer stone and since I oogle over paraibas every time I see one, I wondered if they came in smaller rounds. I can't seem to find many. Is it like searching for the Loch Ness Monster?

Somewhat, yes.

Can you find a blue/green tourm. for a 6mm round setting? Sure.

A copper-bearing blue/green tourm. (copper is the 'glow' in paraibas), in a 6mm round? Significantly harder. Copper bearing tourms. can be hard to find period. The only vendor I can readily think of that has them is Thaigemcity on Ebay. I am sure there are more, but I can't think of any, esp. since most of the inventory I keep up with is from the precision facetors, and they rarely have paraiba tourms. What is your budget like? If its on the high end, you can check out Pala or Richard Wise.

However, if you were to ask me if I thought it was a great quality one? No, I don't think it is but that's a personal opinion and others may love it :(sad

I'll just say that though I like the color, I don't like the stone. But thats also a personal opinion.

LD just a question; Paraiba quality is quite down isn't it?

LD--you are fast!!

Tee hee - say the word "paraiba" to me and I'm like a whippet out of the gate!!!

Arc - yes. Good quality paraiba tourmaline is exceptionally difficult to find i.e. neon, good clarity and cut. If you get 2 out of 3 you're doing well. The price has also shot up over the years which coincides with the availability (or lack of) and it's now horrendously expensive compared to 5 years ago. Even lesser quality stones are attracting silly prices. :(sad

Thanks. I've never even thought to go for paraiba. I like the color but the price...whew! I certainly wasn't in early enough. The price for certain spinels is also on the rise too.

There's even paraiba melee, so there's all kinds of sizes, but the problem is that only the Brazilian material seemed to be saturated enough for smaller stones. At least that's what I have seen. Also, the smaller you go with some gems, the more of a loss of saturation, and that includes paraiba, in particular, African material.
