Is This A Chip?

I’m in the deep south. I’d probably be open to sending it to your jeweler. Might be able to find someone in New Orleans or Atlanta. I have Mednikov here. Spelling. They thoroughly document the diamond, then send it off for resizing, but they said it would take two weeks.

Ivy & Rose said they wouldn’t work with me because I didn’t buy from them. They said they won’t repair or resize, nothing.

Here’s what my plan is, maybe

1) Add to my Jeweler’s Mutual Policy probably for $15k
2) Send to EGL or similar to get a “ballpark” assessment of the diamond and an appraisal. EGL does both. (Assuming I don’t need to fear EGL stealing my diamond.)
3) Get it resized somewhere

A lab that could cert, size, appraise would be ideal.

JM will only insure based on your receipt specs and value until/unless you get an appraisal for more... but I would not do that as it would mean unnecessary premium. Use the receipt and insure with JM.

Then get resized.

No need for EGL in this scenario.

Any well respected jeweler can appraise and resize if you want that (but since JM accepts receipts as value I'd just go with that and save the hassel).

This is the kind of stuff I need to hear. So send off somewhere, or find someone local? I do not live in a safe area and I’m more frightened of local jewelers than sending it off. Not sure what to do

do local
do you live in a smaller place ?
a bussiness would not last ten seconds in my country and certainly not my city if they were swapping dimaonds, we would all know about it by the morning
i really love your ring btw
ive been looking at it this past few days

I live in Atlanta and have a local jeweler I really trust to do repair work and they have also have a GIA certified gemologist on staff who will do an appraisal for you. Feel free to let me know if you'd like their contact.

I don't know why, but Jeweler Mutual insured my wife's ring at $25k for $299 and estimated mine would be $369 at $15k. Maybe because I'm a guy!

Ok I have an idea! Are there any forum members I can pay to resize it for me AND they'd get to see it? If I'm going to send it off, it would be fun to know who I'm sending it to!

Everyone I've contacted locally told me they send it off for resizing, so why not send to one of you guys?

We aren’t jewlers.

You can call JM and ask about the difference in pricing.
