I''m looking to buy a new diamond to celebrate my 30th anniversary. Obviously I''ve waited a LONG time to upgrade my diamond, so it it very important that I buy the bust I can for my budget.

I''ve been searching online for diamonds and have found one at Union Diamond I''m seriously considering. However, ther are a couple of things I''m concerned about and would appreciate some guidance.

The information I have on the stone is as follows:

Color: D
Clarity: SI1
Depth: 62.2
Table: 59
Flouresence: None
Dimensions: 8.23X6.66X4.14
L/W: 1.24
Price: $7,338 (bank wire)

I have two major concerns:

1) I''m concerned that a L/W of 1.24 will make the diamond look squashed. Is there really that much difference between a L/W of 1.24 and say 1.33

2) Price - $7,338 seems to good to be true. Another vendor I''m in contact with about a setting is telling me there must be something wrong with the diamond for it to be that cheap. But I don''t know if he is telling me that because he is really concerned or hopes I''ll purchase a diamond from him.

Any guidance you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Ditto? Welcome Parmela!

So sorry! You can tell I''m a newby!

The diamond is an oval.

I also forgot to mention that it is GIA certified.

No need to apologize!

Ok, can you ask UD for an ASET image and a clear close up photograph of the diamond please?

Ditto Lorelei.

I contacted the seller about the diamond and was told they only had a hand held ASET and couldn''t take a picture. In the mean time, I did more research. This time about the different types of inclusions and how they effect a diamond. What I learned was that the diamond I was considering had a feather on the upper right edge that appeared on both the front and back. From what I understand, this could mean that the diamond could crack and break at that point.

Anyway, I decided to take a pass and keep looking.

I hope I did the right thing.

I''ve located another diamond I''m interested in. I found this one in a local jewelry store that has been around for 2 generations. I was able to hold it and loop it for myself.....and see the shape.

The diamond is:

Caret: 1.31
Color: F
Clarity: SI2 (Under the loop you can see a large feather, but that''s it.) You can see it easily from the bottom, but I couldn''t see it at all without the loop)

Polish: Good-Very good
Symmetry - Very good
Fluroscence - None
Depth - 63.6
Table - 54
Crown - 16
Pavillion - 39
Girdle - Thick, faceted
Measurements: 8.2X6.07X3.86

They are asking $5,800 for the stone. Does this sound like a good buy?

Hi Parmela, I understand the joy and anxiety of searching and looking for the RIGHT upgrade!

If you are still searching and in the market, ask for Todd at Union Diamond.

I purchased my stone from Union Diamond last summer and did a reset just a month ago. Todd Neuhaus was my person there! He is very knowledgable, patient and experienced! Believe me when I say patient I mean very very patient. Im very picky and fickle. He was Abosolutely WONDERFUL to work with! I recommend him to anyone!

When I was comparing my cushion and an oval Union Diamond had, he emailed microscopic photos to me. One of the photos is my current avatar. Im sure he will do the same for you!

I hope this helps! Good Luck with your UPGRADE!

Its difficult to tell much from the numbers as you know, does the diamond have a GIA report?

It is EGL certified.
