Is this a good price on this diamond?

Can I get a few experts here to weigh on on the WF ES stone? I was comparing it to others of the same color/clarity/cut and I'm thinking it's priced about $200 below what I'd expect.

For this question just go on the info available, and assume it's eye-clean, and tell me what you think if you would please. Thank you. :wavey:

are you pulling ANOTHER andelain??? :Up_to_something:

Congrats on finding one of the beauties still around from before the price hike.. what will you do with this one??

That's just it, yssie, that stone hasn't even arrived at WF yet. That's why it's page is so incomplete. No AGS pedigree, no details, just the basic pics. Sheena told me it won't be in their hands for a couple weeks still. I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea why it's not more expensive. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

I did snag a left-over once though. They had an eye-clean .46ct D-SI1 ACA for $1100, and and two identical spec'ed virtual selections were $1400 each. I bought it and just left it sit at WF for like three months until I came up with a home for it.

Maybe a trade in stone?

Now that makes a lot of sense, they used the old pics, but won't post the old cert because it'll be redone. I did verify the cert on AGS's site and it's dated Nov 2010. Hmmmmmmm. But the question remains, Am I right that this stone is couple Franklins cheaper than normal?

BTW, if this is a 'pre-loved' stone it doesn't bother me a bit.

Huh. Now I'm curious about the story on this one too.. maybe it was cut at 5pm on a Monday night instead of on Tuesday, by someone under 6ft tall? That would explain the price difference :wink2: ..

Grading report date is no indication of when the stone was cut. (PS. Please do not use cert, it is not a cert, the report certifies nothing.) It could have been send in to get an updated report in Nov after it was traded in by WF. Yap, price is cheaper, even better than a non-branded JA AGS stone.

I will Lorelei. I put it on hold before I even started this thread. I know better than to to wait. haha

Stone Cold, Yssie, thanks for the feedback. I looked the stone up on AGS's webside and the grade-making inclusion is a big cloud out in the table, so that could be a problem, but I hope not with an SI-1. I'm looking forward to what WF has to say about this stone. I just might have to pull ANOTHER. Andelain. :)

Well, Bob finally got a chance to have the stone in his hot little hands, and have young eagle-eyes look at and the official word is;

1. completely eye-clean.
2. the clouds don't diminish the light performance at all.
3. the only thing that cost it ACA status is one of it's inclusions in a minute scratch on the table that doesn't show even under 10x.

PS/repeat customer discount brought the thing down to $1200, and it's JUST outside the range of size I had in mind for my next major project, so............

you guessed it....

I bought it. :rodent:

I agree, YAY!!!

If anyone's curious why I bought a stone and had them ship it loose, I'll give you a sneak-peek at a project that I have in mind. In fact it may very well get done this year, since the center stone was a large part of the price. I'll be using my 1.57 ct Eightstar, the new .67ct and a melee stone of undetermined size. Does this patter sound familiar? Are you looking at my avatar yet?

Picture my pendant as a ring, a split shank, the smaller end angled inward like the larger is on the pendant, but the stone size difference slightly more exaggerated. I haven't yet decided whether I'll have the wider end toward my wrist or fingertips, but I'm leaning toward fingertips as shown in the bottom pic.

Yay! This sounds like a fab project!! I can't wait to see how it turns out :)

Oooh I like!

Actually I really like the rope-y look the chain has - are you thinking of a "rope" or "twist" textured-type split-shank?

What I'm leaning toward is having some milgraining done just on the top part of the shanks, but not down the sides unless it's very smooth to the touch. I don't like rough edges, prongs, etc rubbing against the adjacent fingers. I may go with a slightly heavier shank to match one of the 22kt chains I like the pendant with best.

so - whole thing in 22k or 22k shank and - I guess 18k head? Would the colour difference bother you?

No, the entire ring would be 18tk YG, except the WG heads. That's how the pendant is, but I like to wear it with my high purity chains. The color diff looks cool to me with my pendant, but I'd destroy a 22kt ring in short order. Otherwise I'd do the whole ring in 22kt. Or even 24kt.

ahh, I get, I get :))

Well I think I'll sit back and wait to ooh and aah over the result, the intricacies of design escape me I'm afraid ::) though I'm betting you could find someone to make you a specialty bronzy/golden 18k alloy if you really wanted (and were willing to pay...)

Well, it'll very likely be this year. Stumbling across the center stone like this means the remaining cost will be minimal in comparison. Of course the largest part of the cost by far was the 1.57 ct VVS-1 Eightstar. :$$): In fact, since I just let the cat out of the bag on this one I may see if WF wants to start it after these other projects clear the pipeline. I'll get my custom brown diamong ring any day now. In fact there's going to be a mail run tomorrow. :errrr: :rodent:

Y'know I've lost track of all your projects! There's Brownie, this new ring, the surprise studs from WF, the baby AVCs - what am I missing?

That's it. Brownie has been in the works for a few months, longer if you count the time it spent visiting Brian Gavin for a crash diet.
The AVR's came to be when I saw .25 ct'ers on GOG's website, and the tiny's were just something I've been wanting for my outermost earholes as an accent. This ring we've been talking about has been in my head for a long time, but not as a final design until I completed the sketches for the pendant since I want them to match.

The only other thing I'm thinking about right now is how I'm going to reset my BGD's. I remember posting a sketch that would also include my 3 1/2 ct tanzanites in a pair of drops, but then came up with the idea of making drops that are small versions of my pendant. That idea has been gaining traction ever since.

Being as color sensitive as I am, and normally buying D-E-F coloered diamonds it's easy to forget just how beautiful the soft white of a lower colored diamond can be. Well this evening I got a reminder of that when I opened the package with this little 67 point WF ES. Once again Bob and the crew at WF hasn't steered me wrong, and this little stone is just stunning!

I snapped a couple pics of it in my room, one using an incandescant flashlight to get some fire. I'll get a couple more pics in the daylight. I have it setting on top of my Eightstar 1.57ct I-VVS1 that it'll eventually share a home with.
