Hi.. I'm completely new and stumbled on this site through hearsay..

If this is the worst way to ask about a ring.. I sincerely apologize.. but I was very interested in buying this ring for about $7800

GIA certified.. this is from a reputable online store.. but would be site unseen..

Shape and Cutting Style: Round Brilliant
Measurements: 7.45 - 7.52 x 4.35 mm
Weight: 1.52 carat

Proportions
Depth: 58.1%
Table 65%
Girdle: Slightly thick to very thick, faceted
Cutlet: None

Finish
Polish: Very good
Symmetry: Good

Clarity Grade SI2
Color Grade: D
Flurorescence: Faint

Thank you all for any help!

Hi roobix and welcome!

No need to apologize, you are doing fine and all you need to do with any question is just ask! I would stay away from this diamond, it isn't well cut, shallow depthed and the table is huge! The very thick variation of the girdle is also undesirable in a round diamond. If the stone showed more potential I would ask you to get the crown and pavilion angles for the diamond also but due to the proportions being what they are, I personally would move on and keep looking.

As it sounds as if you are open to buying online, if you give us your budget for the diamond and your requirements, would you like us to make some suggestions of diamonds you might like?

Thanks, Lorelei.. do you think it''s because it''s from Blue Nile?

Maybe they''re showing me a sample GIA cert?

Darn.. I was hoping this would be a good buy

BN are an excellent vendor with some great stones, but this isn't one of them!! They also provide the actual reports for each diamond so this won't be a sample. The downside of buying from BN is that they don't supply images such as Idealscope that many discerning buyers want, however they are trustworthy, reliable and you can buy from them with confidence if you are ok with just buying from the numbers and seeing what you think when the stone arrives.

Oh.. and yes.. please make some suggestions..

I'm looking for either an Oval or Round diamond that's at least 1.5 carats..
I'd like to have a clear color (to the naked eye)
As well as the best clarity where flaws aren't noticeable to the naked eye..
I would say my budget is about 8000 for the diamond? I'm willing to spend more .. maybe 10k if needed? But I'm not sure :)

It's probably impossible to find something like this for cheap.. but This is just my second day hunting and I'm being hopeful

For the budget, would you consider G or H colour or maybe I or J? This would help to get more size for the money, if the cut is great you will still have a very white diamond. I will take a look for you to see what I can come up with, fancy shapes are a different kettle of fish such as ovals, as images are essential in order to choose a well cut stone, without it is really buying blind.

Also if we could find something weighing a bit less than 1.5cts you would have essentially the same look but it can avoid the price jumps that ' magic weights' such as 1.5cts can command.

Yes I would definitely consider G and maybe even H

Whichever shape is nice is fine with me as well. Round is probably preferable anyways

I would be willing to max out at 10k.. I might have to ask my gf.. but it would be great if we could stick around 8K for my specs.

Thank you so much for your help!

I think you might definitely have to lower the colour to get the size you want, have a look at these.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1263978.asp you would need to check this one is eyeclean to your standards if interested by asking your JA rep to find out for you.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1267115.asp you would need to check this one is eyeclean also and that the grade setting cloud isn't impacting performance, ask the vendor as above.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1255448.asp this one also has clouds, check as above and that it is eyeclean.

No problem, see the stones I posted above as they fall within your 8k budget. I will increase to 10k and see what I can find.

Thanks again, Lorelei!

Most welcome, glad to help!

Ok, I increased the budget to 10k, here are some selections within that range.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1276653.asp check to see if eyeclean.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1284424.asp check again to see if eyeclean, also there are clouds marked as grade setters, check these carefully with one of the staff gemologists to make sure these aren't negatively affecting the stone by impacting performance.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1278907.asp check if eyeclean again

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1271827.asp check eyecleanliness and clouds

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1267115.asp as above, eyecleanliness and clouds - check.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1277729.asp

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI2-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1283413.aspm nice 60 60 type, again check to make sure it is eyeclean and clouds aren't an issue.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1218716.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131 check for eyecleanliness and again the clouds as mentioned above.

Looks like someone snagged that 60/60 diamond..

Lorelie can pick em, scroll on through her options and put any that you think you like on hold while you consider them.

If you want to get above 1.5ct the larger budget will allow you to stay a little higher in color. It is worth it in my opinion (if you have the funds) because I personally like the look of a totally colorless diamond, which means for me about I color at the lowest, preferrably H or higher. Eye clean SI2s can be found, but with the majority of SI2s if you look you will find the inclusions. I don''t like this personally, so SI1 is my safe preference. Just my 2c!
