Is this a good value based on stats alone?

I'm not sure if you all are able to see the stats or GIA report in this link but I purchased this stone today. Let me know what you think based on the value. Be honest! I can take criticism (& yes I know, I shouldn't care what others think but I care about what PSers think!)

*Price was in the high 800s*

We're going to need to see the certificate and a video to evaluate.

Also, it would help to know what this diamond will be used for -- a ring, pendant necklace, earring, or just to collect etc. What is your goal with this diamond?

Not sure if I can post the certificate. I’ve been blasted previously for not having basic knowledge of rules. Polish symmetry & cut are excellent. It’s I color, Si1, GIA cert, faint fluoro

The center stone would be housed in a double halo ring (RHR)

You can post the certificate as an image.

Yes, we need the GIA report...it is fine to post them.

It looks like a nice stone with no super dark/obvious inclusions but it appears to have a fairly brown tint at high magnification. At .5ct, I don't see this tint being an issue, specially when set. Might even be able to play up to the tint with some rose gold.

However, if you want to set it in white metal, or with other whiter stones, you may be able to notice the tint even when set.

You can put your diamond's grading report number in here then post the subsequent link:

Brown tint as in the diamond looking brown? Since it's a smaller carat size does it seem like it would look brown at that angle? Or only at higher magnification? (like microscopic?) I'm not understanding here?

With tints, the bigger the stone, and fancier the cut, the more obvious it will be. D-H stones are generally colourless but as you get lower in colour, you'll see the yellow. Some diamonds just have a brown tint instead of yellow. I'd take a look in person. My bet is that you won't really notice it in real life. Some people prefer a brown tint over yellow, but it'll depend on what you plan to do with it.

It looks like it has a brown tint to me too, but it may be the lighting in the video.

I personally don't care for the dark inclusions.

GIA "excellent cut" is in reality a very wide range, which includes diamonds that don't perform particularly well in addition to ones that are lovely, so without seeing the report, or the diamond in person, or even putting its stats into the HCA, we won't be able evacuate it's cut/performance.

As for "value" there are very few "bargains" on diamonds, (you'd have to look long and hard at estate sales and pawn shops to find something truly undervalued).

If you like this diamond when you receive it, if it makes you happy and meets your needs, then I guess it could be considered a good "value."

Good news, I was able to upgrade to this stone. I'm not sure if you can see the stats based on the link alone but here it is:

I know it's not an Excellent Cut, but for me I wanted a higher color versus lower. Thanks everyone for your input :) I always welcome it!

A superbly cut stone can face up whiter and appear larger than a poorly cut stone. Take a look at this article which explains why cut quality makes all the difference.

I would hate to see you spend money on a diamond that performs poorly, and the stone you've posted is not well cut. It also has strong fluorescence which may cause negative visual effects. Would you consider compromising on color a bit to get a much better cut stone? An F is still colorless and will face up white, and this one is also a lot cleaner than the one you found.

^ what @Kim N said.
Please have a look at the examples I posted in the thread I made for you over at the LGD subforum.
If you have any questions about anything, just say the word and we'll help in every way possible.

I still have an opportunity to exchange this stone. Should I go for it?

Thoughts??

Oh nooo why not?
Ugh, I feel like I'm the worst at picking out stones :/

The pavilion angle is not complementary with the crown angle. You want an inverse relationship for the crown and pavilion angles--a high crown with a low pavilion, or vice versa.

Check out the HCA here. It will help you weed out stones whose proportions don't work well together. I think you only get 3 free uses, though.

crown angle is way too steep for the 40.8 pavilion angle with 75 lowers, resulting in a "steep-deep" diamond with a 62.9% overall depth...recommended depth range is 60.5 to 62.5%, but I like to tighten that up even more by sticking to 61 to 62.2%.

polish and symmetry are VG, which I'm not a fan of especially since GIA still gives "excellent" cut grade to make it appealing to the potential customer base.

If you are wanting to stick with an EGD, then might as well go for the gusto and get one that has the absolute best cut grade (and also custom cut to an extremely tight set of parameters)...sign up on their site and get $100 off:

You're not going to find a better upgrade program:

OK y'all I'm thinking this might be it...

In between these 2 & leaning towards SI2 even though I originally wanted SI1 but I don't want strong fluoro...tell me your thoughts & opinions, the good, the bad, the ugly! GO!

&

Can you ask for the grading report and then post it, please?

I bet the clarity is going to be set by clouds not shown. It looks cleaner than one would expect for a SI2 but I think there could be transparency issues.
