I just found a great diamond online that is the price, size, and overall quality I''m looking for. I have doubts about it though because it was really cheap compared to other rocks of similar quality and size. Here are the specifics:

Lab: EGL
shape: round brilliant
measurements: 6.72 - 6.69 x 4.10 mm
weight: 1.14 cts
total depth: 61.1%
talbe width: 61%
crown height: 13%
pavilion depth: 45%
girdle thickness: medium, faceted
polish and sym: very good
culet: none

clarity: VS2
color: H
fluorescence: none

This was listed for just shy of $4000. EGL doesn''t list the crown and pavilion angles so I can''t plug this into the HCA cut advisor tool to see about the brilliance, fire, etc. Is there any way I can tell if this is a good cut, or should I just get the rock, take it to an appraiser, and send it back if it doesn''t make the grade?

Thanks for the help and the advice.

With the EGL cert, you can still plug the numbers into the HCA but it will not be as accurate with % readings vs angles. The result came back rated as 7.2 Fair so I would skip the diamond completely. Any number rated between 0 to 2 on the HCA is fine.

Light Return: Fair
Fire: Poor
Scintillation: Poor
Spread: Very Good
Overall Grade: 7.2 Fair

a beautifully cut 1.14ct H VS2 with AGS or GIA report will probably cost about $6800.
