LD said:I'm not sure it's an old stone either. The cut looks more modern and I suspect the ring is a modern replica. Having said that it's absolutely beautiful!
Chrono said:I do not know much about settings but the stone looks very well cut - almost as though it was precision cut! It has all the hallmarks of a precision cut stone from the high crown, very good facet meet points and great symmetry. Do you know approximately how old it is supposed to be? If it is very old, the aquamarine is in superb condition showing no wear and tear, which is unusual.
Chrono said:Thank you for the super close ups! I can see some wear and tear on the stone now so at least you know it's been worn before in the past and it's not a newish stone that might have been swapped in. The design is rather modern though. But whatever it might be, I think it's a lovely piece.
Pandora said:I also think it's lovely and hope that it is an aquamarine - come back and tell us if you get an answer.
My father bought a stick-pin last year for a couple of pounds in a junk shop with an approx 11ct emerald cut stone of a similar colour to yours. It was sold as glass but he was not convinced. I was able to confirm it as a natural aquamarine. It was also in pretty good nick for its age with just one minor chip. He was pretty happy!
