Is this Rose Cut Diamond Mounted Upside Down?

I haven't been here for quite some time as things got crazy buy at work. I am still on the hunt for an old cut diamond.

I need your best guess or expert opinion on this antique ring (which has been disguised a bit to protect it''s identity from peeping lurkers).

I don't have much experience with rose cut diamond but I thought they weere flat on the bottom and rounded on top. This diaomnd appears to be the oppsotite of this. What does it look like to you?

It mounted as a normal rose cut. Round on the top and flat under.

actually, it does look at though the flat part is facing up...which is wrong.

I guess the reason I was confused is because the side view of the ring (I think that's photo 2) the diamond looks flat. I thought it would look curved from the side too?

Every rose cut I've seen was mounted with the flat side down and the facets facing the viewer.
Apparently that jewelry designer just wanted a different look since such a thing could not be an accident.

Something being not-usual does not make it wrong.
2+2=5 is wrong.

The mounting is original to the ring, BUT I wonder if the diamond can be flipped the other way? And I thought they were supposed to have foil or something like that behind them? This one is see through on the finger...which is kind of a cool look in itself. I haven't seen the ring in person, it's an online purchase. The ring on the hand photos are too die for though. Once I put it on hold I will share those with you too. The finger coverage is literally awesome!!!

There's something about this ring the sings to my heart..no diamond has ever done that before...well I mean my engagement ring did but it wasn't really the ring it was that was singing it was the love my husand gave with it that had my heart singing.

Anyway, this ring does make my heart sing and who knew? I would have never, ever considered it before. It's not a cut I would have ever considered. I was pretty mjuch set on an OEC or OMC...but gawd I do love those rose cut diamonds! I saw one on the cover of Martha Stewart Weddings and it made me swoon...
