Ok, not sure if this is the correct forum to post in. I have numerous pieces on Ebay, LT, Diamond Bistro & Poshmark. I just don't know what to think here.. Please advise..

I just got a message on one of these sites from a potential buyer saying:

"Its really nice! Please could you provide more pictures or send me t-e-x-t with the subject to my Email 12345 @ G-M-A-I-L. com so we can discuss better.. I'd love to purchase it immediately..

So I email this person back and they send me this message:
Thanks for your prompt response, I'm good with the price. I would have loved to come and take a look at it and pay in cash, but I can't right now due to a slight change in my work schedule . I would like you to remove the advert from the list cos i want to make the purchase asap and I don't mind adding extra $50 to delete the ads from the list, Please let me know if a bank certified check is fine. After the payment clears, my shipper will come and pick it up at your location. Please get back to me with your information

Full Name on the Check
Full mailing Address
Cell Phone
Agreed price

Thanks and I hope we handle this in good faith while waiting to hear from you.

Best Regards.

Ok, thanks guys. I'm going to be leaving removing my stuff from that site now. Darn.. oh well! Why do people do this??
You guys are the best! :D:D:D

Scammers wanting to pay more money and via personal cheques have been on various sites with things for sale for 10+ years. Please be careful with your personal details.

What site was it on? I sell on a couple of those and would love to know!

Don't ever click on any link that anyon ever provides for PayPal/any payment method either. They can create a mirror site that looks legit, but actually records all your information.

There’s something on Loupe Troupe that I’m interested in but they are not a Pricescoper and the price is really....really good. She said she didn’t need the stone because all she wanted was the setting..but it’s like a ridiculous price for the stone..I’m also thinking I should pass. I buy from eBay and everywhere but wondering what protections are in place other than PayPal to protect the buyer.

You have the protection with PayPal, and also have the protection of your credit card if you pay via credit card through PayPal.

Westjenn, did you do a quick google search for the user name and address? If this is Ebay than there are sometimes others that have come across the scam username. But then sometimes they create so many new usernames that we can not keep up. And yes, your contact seems fraudulent.

It was Poshmark. I've had nothing but problems with my listings- Techincal issues.. They fix the issues eventually, but it was getting very annoying to me and I was contemplating deleting my account. Based on this suspicious message and everyones' input, I decided to just cancel my Poshmark account. I also blocked that sender in my Gmail account..
So glad to get everyones' input and I dodged that bullet. Thank you Everyone! ;-)

OMG! Geez... this is so scary to me. I emailed Grace last night and I feel like just consigning everything.. I feel like the higher consignment fees are worth not having to deal with potential scammers :(

I've requested multiple times to delete my poshmark account and they always send a message saying we will email you a confirmation of deletion and I never receive anything! Good luck with your sales!

@westjenn Sorry I didn't mean to alarm you. Basically if you already have a PayPal account, and you just give the buyer your email address linked to your PayPal account, orogo through eBay or diamond bistro, it should be absolutely fine. Alternatively if you simply invoice someone through PayPal with their email address, you should be fine.

It's when people write to you saying '' I use PayPal, if you don't already have an account, here is a link to sign up, it's easy. Once you have set it up I can pay you', and the link is not secure (http: instead of https:) that it becomes risky. Good luck with your sales whatever route you go!

Oh no @737lizakg it's ok! I need to know what's out there and what to do to protect myself. I just feel like this is such a slimy thing for this scammer to do? I'm just a very honest personal collector selling things that I love.

I sell a lot of individual creations on ebay as well. Any time they want a "text" or information outside of the ebay forums, red flag.

I've had a scammer on ebay recently who sent me a moderately legitimate looking 'confirmation of PayPal transaction' . Fortunately, checking my actual PayPal account immediately showed me that no money had been transferred and it was quickly clear that this person was trying to get me to send them a two thousand dollar ring without actually paying for it. I've sold enough stuff that my flags went up pretty quickly, but s/he could easily have fooled a new seller because the fake PayPal emails were fairly convincing. I just keep thinking - imagine if this person put the same amount of effort into doing an actual job as they do into perpetrating ebay scams! I'm sure they would go far....

I get at least one scammer almost every time for any listing I post. Always very gushy on how much they love the item and they want to buy immediately. Once you let them know you only accept PP with a verified address they usually disappear.

Once I had a gemstone seller/buyer (not on our verified list but known to many) who wanted me to send them a mahenge spinel for review without paying for it. Tried to pressure me and wanted me to use their shipping label. Lol! I got warned about them from another PS member who had a less than satisfactory transaction with them so I was not surprised when they got all snarky with me when I refused to send the stone.

That's terrible irrespective of if they are a PS member or not everyone should be paying for whatever they purchase, if they aren't happy with it, it's up to the seller if they offer returns or not.

Scam,
They sent me the same thing.

I send invoice through paypal all the time, but what I do recommend people do is actually logging into their paypal account to retrieve their invoice directly from their paypal account, However, if you don't have a paypal account, you can still pay via "paypal" via credit card (this is the beauty of paypal, to collect money from those that don't want/need a paypal account, but have an ability to pay via credit card, but you'd have to click on the link... just saying sometimes its hard to avoid a link (but ensure its from a trusted person)

That's me! I have literally no idea what it's worth, which is why it's priced so low. I only know what's on the appraisal from GoldAdore, and wouldn't know what a reasonable price could possibly be. Definitely taking it in to the jeweler now if it seems crazy low. Lol!

Great! I’m glad it worked out!
