Hello folks,

Hopefully I'm putting this in the right place..

I'm planning on proposing to my girlfriend & best friend of 3+ years. I have an opportunity coming up that I think makes sense, and her folks are even going to be in town with us for a few days - so I can probably even get her dad's permission and all that fun stuff :)

SO, a few months back she got all hopped up on engagement rings and she (like myself) is pretty particular, so she spent a few months researching and discovering what she likes/doesn't like, etc, etc (I have been pretty involved too :) ) She actually spent a lot of time on Price Scope, getting advice and help from the nice folks here.

She went from considering a sapphire, to not being so sure, to recently resolving that she wants an antique diamond in a modern setting. Cool... but like I said - she's very particular and while I pretty much know exactly what she wants - I'm quite hesitant to pick something out for her myself. Frankly, I think it would be fun to look together for a stone and get it set, but I also really want to give her the excitement and surprise of a proposal she doesn't know is coming.

So what I've decided to do it get her a different ring to propose with, something I know she's had her eye on for a long time. Something I know she'll wear on her right hand so we can then focus on finding her the exact antique diamond/ring she loves for her left hand, but she can still always wear her "proposal ring" too.

Does that make sense? Hopefully :s

So the thing she's be eyeing for awhile is a semi eternity band with emeralds. I thought that was a pretty good candidate, plus it would go perfectly with the other ring I got her awhile back (sort of a promise ring type thing) which is a stackable diamond semi-eternity ring. She plans to put her current diamond one on her right hand when we get engaged, so I figure the emerald one would go nicely with that.

Now.. I just need some reassurance, or guidance as to where to get this ring from. I found one I like in about the price-range I want to spend on Allurez.com: https://www.allurez.com/gemstone/gemstone_wedding_bands/emerald_semi-eternity_band_stackable_ring_in_14k_white_gold_0.38_ct/pid/300/51

So.. Thoughts?

Well you already know she likes the color and design, how can you go wrong?
But...has she actually tried this ring on in real life?
I've ordered rings off the internet and been disappointed in them because they look so much bigger and nicer online.

I learned a long time ago on ebay to read the description more than look at the picture or else...
So what I'm suggesting is to determine what the actual size of the emeralds are and the width of the ring to make sure it will be a nice size and not teeny.
In the past 2 weeks I've sent back 4 different jewelry orders because they just didn't look as nice as they were shown in pictures.

Congratulations on your upcoming proposal. That's the important part.

The stock photo from the website you posted definitely looks photoshopped. My concerns are that the emeralds are so heavily treated or fake that personally I wouldn't want that ring. Or the emeralds are semi real and come back either much lighter or much darker and are extremely dull.

If you want to go this route, I would look at bands by IDJ. Contact them with your budget. I hear LuAnn is excellent to work with. Several PSers have posted gemstones and/or diamond and gemstones bands by them and I have always been impressed with the quality and color. I think my favorite was a tsav band (bright green) which was stunning. So that would be my vote. If you mention to IDJ that you are a PSer I also feel that they bend over backwards for you.

In regards to how you plan on proposing I think you have a very realistic approach. If you gf is picky and went from wanting a sapphire to an old cut you should probably go shopping together. Once she starts trying things on it will probably give her an idea. The other option is to buy the center diamond and propose with it in a temp setting and then take her out to buy the setting.

Goodluck regardless with what you do! Congrats!

I totally agree with Sarah....

Congrats on the upcoming proposal. I'm so excited for you! Now, onto gems. :cheeky: I'm leery of ordering from the link you've shared. It looks to be a stock setting that is likely to also be colour adjusted, meaning the ring you receive is unlikely to look like that. Either that, or the emeralds have been treated up the wazoo.

Thanks a ton for the replies folks! I'm happy to hear that my approach doesn't seem too wacky. I will definitely keep looking and take a look at IDJ.

Cheers!
