Is this true or do they want more money out of me? [UK BASED]

I live in London and have ''not a lot of time'' for most of the dealers in Hatton Garden. There are a few who are good - but I prefer to buy online and through PS vendors.

I would really recommend having the setting made by whoever you purchase the diamond from.

It is pretty much impossible to get loose stone insurance in the UK - so, if you get a jeweller to set your loose stone and they chip it/break it, you are not covered (The jeweller will not be liable either). I would say this is even more important to know with princess cuts as the corners are vulnerable.

I have bought a diamond from Whiteflash, and I''m trying to convince Wink that he needs to hire a permanent bench-man just for my stuff!

You really can''t go wrong on PS - and make the most of the lovely exchange rate!

Cleo (Karen), where did you get that actual ring from, the setting?

I am after a gold solitare ring and that one with the 1ct on the gold band looks lovely.

PapaSB - thankyou so much!

I''m almost embarassed to tell you, because the place sells possible the worst diamond jewellery I''ve ever seen (Frozen Spits R Us).

However, it was exactly the shape of mount I wanted & really heavy, solid 18ct yellow gold (no cut-outs inside or anything like that).

The website is here, but I no longer see the one I bought on there for sale, although they do have a pic of it on the main engagement ring page (pic attached).

You could always email them and ask if they''d make it for you. I think they make their mounts to order anyway, so it''s worth a shot.

Their diamonds suck, but the mounts are very good and reasonably priced (far cheaper than my favourite B&M and better quality in my experience).

I''m actually going to buy another (different) one for my 1ct pear-cut pink sapphire fairly soon.

Hope this helps!

I want a heavy gold engagement ring, with a firm setting. Ideally yellow gold with a white gold / platinum setting for the stone.

Not sure that Allen, or WFlash have anything like that - i can''t tell from the photos they have.

Anyone bought anything like that from either / any of the PS rec''d vendors?

If you take a look round the other mounts on that site, they have several in that style.

Mine''s actually all yellow gold, so not really what you''re after.

I''m sure GOG, Whiteflash or James Allen carry some YG settings if you''re looking to buy your diamond from any of them... have a browse! :)

I think these look pretty heavy and solid.

They are from Whiteflash and they can be made in Yellow gold with plat head.

I found the other, but could not find this one on their site? Can you post the link?

Here is a proper photo of setting 1

If you bought this diamond with setting 1 you would pay £3130. This includes your pricescope discount, shipping, VAT and import duty.

Or if you wanted to go a bit higher in colour, you could buy this diamond with setting 1 for £3853 including all taxes, shipping etc.

The diamonds I am choosing are from the A Cut Above range from Whiteflash. They are their top range.

how and when is the prices scope reduction applied? I did notice that the PS prices were not the same as the website

Tell your sales rep that you are a pricescope member when you speak on the phone or by email.

further to the excellent advice you''ve so far recieved...

if you do want to go look at some stones in person at Hatton Gardens - it may be wise either to contact Paul-Antwerp of infinity diamonds to set up a meeting in Antwerp or at his dealers in Hatton Gardens (best diamonds ) i dont know what they are like, having never delt with them. but like Wink on here they are Infinity dealers.

My personal choice would be to look at AGS graded stones that receive a cut grade of ''ideal'' and look at the stones of those i know carry such stones - Wink with paul''s infinity diamonds and Whiteflash''s ACA range. Good Old Gold carries a selection of princess'' stones graded either by AGS or by GIA, but they are hand picked by Jon as excellent performers.

there is subtle differences between the Infinity Diamond princess stones and the Whiteflash ACA Princess - relaited to the number of steps in the pavilion - one isnt better than the other - but it does give a different look.
Pricescope rules prevent me from linking to it direct (i think anyway)... but a certain ultimate info shop in New York State has a video comparison of a 2 step princess and a 3 step princess

Interestingly at HG today the guy had a

0.63ct
D
VVS2

Which "He could do for me as I''d called him yesterday" for about £2500 ($4750)

I am going back tomorrow to view the diamonds and the sizes so i get an idea of what is good value, the sites here or HG.

I think that it will become clear quite quickly.

I think its possible to get a very cheap ring, it won''t necessarily be a good one. Lord Summerisle gives some great advice. If you want the best, then only look at the best.

Jewellers in Hatton Garden can be very persuasive and they might try to talk you out of all of the great advice you have received here.

I bet that D VVS2 is sounding quite interesting at the moment...

Might be worth bearing in mind that even a D IF diamond could be reaaaaaaally badly cut.

I''d take a really well cut G SI1 over that any day - as would most other PSers I suspect.

Just thought it was worth mentioning - but hope the stone is exactly what you want!!

Hi All,

I will try again, there is a online company who can compete price wise worldwide based in hatton garden. If you choose to shop on the high street
and then compare online USA sites prices will be cheaper as if you compare high street with online UK companies. The advantage with dealing with a UK
company is that you can pop in to view. It is a mistake to think you will save money shopping online in the USA. But if you want to shop overseas
then that fine.

I cannot promote my company via pricescope as its against there rules but we are one of the biggest if not the biggest in the UK online.

I have proved many times here that you do not save money shopping online in the USA.

Kind Regards

Paul

May I see your evidence, please?

I remain sceptical that I could have saved money from shopping within the UK using your company, compared to buying online from the USA... for an AGSL cert diamond of identical cut, colour, clarity & size.

Paul
I am sorry but I don''t have a list of all the UK online vendors I looked at. If you really want to know you will have to give me some time.

Hi,

I have proved many times but i cannot promote my site on this forum. but pls check online in the UK against USA sites
and the best UK sites will price match any site worldwide. In some cases we sell the same stones this has been proved many times.

if you do your research you will find this out.

but if you compare UK high street against USA online prices of course you will save lots of money.

The same if you compare UK Online companies against UK high street prices you will see a great saving.

I also understand PS members like to promote to each other where to buy but you will not save money buying overseas.

That aside if you want to buy overseas thats your choice and all of the companies that advertise on pricescope offer great
stones at great prices.

Kind Regards

Paul

If we ASK you which site you are referring to, then I am sure it will be OK for you to tell us.. and then we can all find out for ourselves how the prices compare.

That is, if you are sure the number stack up! :)

I have checked out a few online stores here in the UK, and although the prices seem comparable at first based on colour and clarity, I haven''t found any information on the cut of these stones. If I''m buying online from anywhere, I need to have as much data as possible, so sites that only give me limited info are not ones I''m considering myself, nor are sites I would recommend to others.

If you honestly know there are UK online vendors out there who do supply all the numbers, cut grades, and other report stats for every stone, say the word and I''ll keep looking for one I might use. But so far, I''ve found no such store.

This is the diamond I bought from Whiteflash link I paid £2494 (this price includes VAT)

The closest I could find on your website costs £2895 (this price includes VAT) I can''t provide a link to it for some reason.

My diamond is EX polish and EX symmetry, yours is VG for both.

So really I paid less for mine didn''t I?

I have looked at your site QD Rocks.

First, you do not provide the information I want - idealscope pics, GIA reports, photographs of the ACTUAL stone.

Secondly your prices were $2k more for a identical stone in terms of size, colour and clarity. I have no idea what the cut was other than your site telling me it was excellent. There were no scans of GIA reports so that I could see inclusion plots.

The people that give me the most information are more likely to get my business, especially when I can get it for less.

You say you have PROVED that you can supply the same product for less - can you link to the post please.

OK, so I found your website.

As other posters have mentioned, there are no actual diamond pics, and only links to some scans of original grading reports.

I also did not manage to find any AGSL graded stones in the size range I searched for. As one often pays a premium for AGSL compared to GIA certed stones, clearly some of the cost of my stone can be attributed to the AGS cert.

The closest I can find on your website would therefore be a GIA certed stone.

Your site completely neglects to mention the GIA certed cut grade (as per your small-print disclaimer). In fact, a so called ''Ideal'' stone on your site was only certed as ''Very Good'' cut by GIA.... which is at best confusing, and at worst....???????

In fact, even GIA cert numbers (or links to certs) are not given for every single stone: making it impossible to tell exactly how good some of these diamonds really are.

Having looked at your entire list, I cannot find a diamond comparable in quality to my own... and your price for a lesser quality diamond is £5395.

Admittedly, this represents excellent value for money when compared to a UK B&M vendor: but is still something in the region of $2000 more than I paid for a far better stone - even after paying tax.

I respect what you are doing in saving UK consumers money compared to High Street prices: but unfortunately all evidence suggests it remains cheaper to buy from the USA.
