Hi, I haven't posted in a while!!

I just came into a little "extra" money and want to treat myself to a little something, something. So I have been looking. I am attracted to this cornflower blue stone. I know that wisdom says to buy what you like...but will it look washed out?

Also, I have noticed a lot of stones like this

I think I read that it is called silt. Does anyone have a stone like that set?

Sorry I am having trouble with the links.

did you link to the correct stone in the first link? Because IMO it's not cornflower blue.

I am not sure what the correct name for the color....but I do find it pleasing.

If you like a light blue color sapphire you can check with Dana from Mastercut Gems. He has been recutting a parcel of light blue sapphires and you could ask if he could cut you one. I have the gem listed below that I bought in a preloved ring. The color is not washed out at all and Dana's cutting makes it very lively and sparkly.

I agree that the blue sapphire is very pale. I doubt you'd be happy with that little saturation irl. What plans do you have for it? That one is also very small, 4 mm -- unless you wear a tiny ring size, if that's what you want it for, it would cover more real estate bezeled or haloed, which adds to the cost. Maybe you can find something at Gem Line: http://www.litnon.com Good luck!

A nice bright crisp light blue like the one you linked from NSC is going to be easier to find than a "cornflower" blue... and much less expensive :D

I like the suggestion of contacting Dana at mastercutgems :D or try litnon too

Definitely buy what you like but buy with your mind and eyes open. If you like that pale grayish blue colour, that's fine. What I dislike about that sapphire are:
1. It's not even symmetrical (or round).
2. Not sure what's going on with the girdle but it ranges from very thin to quite thick, being wavy and rough in some areas.
Both are likely to present setting challenges but more importantly, if you are fussed on symmetry, this will bother you when you look at it.

The pink sapphire has a ton of cut issues.
1. Horribly shallow stone
2. Culet is chopped off (see that "hole")
3. Super thick girdle
4. Roval shaped (cross between round and oval)
5. Flat topped (or almost no crown)
6. Let's not even get started on the clarity and colour.

All these issues contribute to the stone looking far less attractive than it should. The stone is unlikely to be sparkly and brilliant. I believe all the above was done in order to preserve as much weight as possible but the end result isn't pretty.
