It’s not a diamond, it’s not round.

Bron, I wonder if it would have been different if it was mounted in a cheap setting? The only reason I ponder this is because I didn’t have any issues when I imported my lab grown diamond rings in January 2023 from the US?

I know that as an island our biohazard restrictions are in place for protection but this just seems ludicrous.

I imagine literally millions of lab grown gemstones come to Australia every year.
The mystery is why they think my parcel contains a biohazard.
And no one I speak to can give me an explanation only that the documents don’t match and they need the correct documents and a Manufacturers declaration.
The declaration requires answers to questions that can’t be answered because the contents aren’t made of plant or animal or biological or 100% synthetic.
I have a copy of the invoice and the lab report but I don’t know how the contents were described as only as “lab grown CVD” which obviously isnt a “thing” because it’s a process. And even though the invoice contains a complete description and origin, it appears they refer to another document, that I don’t have a copy of, “that doesn’t match”. I wonder if FedEx or someone who abbreviated the description and accidentally omitted the origin on the import documents and that’s why it’s being treated as a bio hazard.
Few people would know what “lab grown CVD” could mean if the word diamond is missing. That with no origin being disclosed has obviously sent it into the biohazard bin from which, unfortunately, I doubt it can be retrieved

I would take the simple line....
Its a diamond the same material you can get at jewelry stores across the country.
They come in two types mined/natural and lab grown.
The lab grown are made by 2 methods CVD and HPHT.
Mine was made by CVD, and a lot of jewelry stores sell CVD made diamonds and thousands are imported monthly.
Attached is the updated grading report that has the correct diagram.
This was fixed by igi who issue the report.
You can verify the report at the following link.
I hope this helps clarify the situation.

Thank you.

The point your trying to make is this is nothing new and they pass it through thousands of times before and in the future.

Pretty sure it's the words "lab-grown" with the whole biohazard connotation. One does not think of a crystal as being "lab-grown." It has more a Petri-dish ring to it.

I have been busy today.
I have written more emails to various people including lodging an Official Complaint to the Agriculture Dept, to my local Member and to the Government Minister of Agriculture.
Anyone who reads my correspondence will receive an education on what lab grown diamonds are, what shapes they come in and most importantly how they cannot and are not a biohazard.

And I had come to terms with the fact that sometimes Government procedures bend you but never let them break you.
And then this arrived.
I’m only hoping that means it’s on its way.
I’ll believe it when it’s here.

And for those of you playing along at home, this is the type of response I was receiving…..
Note - I have made it very clear that the item I am importing is a Lab Grown Diamond and yes I have already checked BICON and no, there is absolutely no mention of Lab grown diamonds, CVD lab grown diamonds, lab grown gemstone, diamond or Carbon and as such it shouldn’t be a Biohazard.

Good for you. This was a ridiculous situation and wasteful of everyone's time. I am sure they have more important things to do than argue over a common import item like it was the first of it's kind. Hope it gets there quickly and you can finally exhale.

@Karl_K you are a hero!

yippeee! so glad for you!

It'll be worth all of the hassle! :kiss2:

What a fabulous piece this will be! Is there a story?

Only that I have a bit of a thing for bracelets and the Art Deco watch has a minuscule face which almost needs a loupe to read and…. I have quite a few other watches in the queue ahead as preferred watches. I think I’ve worn it twice in, oh, 15 years ha ha.

:kiss2:
I love so much about the aesthetic of this bygone era.

This is going to be a killer!

How will you fill in the space around the center baguette? More round melee? An extra baguette on each end? Engraved metal?
I can't wait to see the final biohazard bracelet!
Ahhhh yes.
Hmmm.
What is the saying “measure twice before cutting”.
The released biohazard diamond is just a smidge too small.
Yes, I could have a thick bezel but I’m worried that will overpower the rest of the setting and spoil the look.
I could “pad out” the space with tinsy diamonds like 1.5mm size at the top and bottom but the setting cost will really go up because it will be labour intensive and still that’s not the look I want.
I can’t fill the space with bezel set baguettes top and bottom because there isn’t quite enough space to do so.
So, another, bigger, biohazard has been ordered.
That’s one problem solved, now to see how its delivery goes.

It will be well worth it when completed. It’s going to be stunning.
