O.K......it is just me or does it drive others absolutely nuts when people ask to see your ering and proceed to put their fingers all over the setting, especially the center stone where fingerprints are glaringly apparent afterwards (''cause I clean my ring daily

I want to cry

out - "pleasssse don''t touch", but by then it is too late and the ring is dirty and I don''t want to be rude to the person looking at my ring.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?

OMG!!! This totally bugs me too!!

Know what I do?? After they smudge up the ring with their fingers, I take my ring in front of them and begin to wipe it clean (to the best of the ability) with a cloth in my purse or the underside of my shirt...they usually get the message, "DON''T TOUCH!"

That is one of my biggest pet peeves, almost like when I was pregnant and people would just come up and touch my stomach, strangers no less. I have learned that when people ask to see my ring I just hold out my hand a fair distance from them so they can't grab it and get their stinckin finger prints all over it.

I just like my personal space, have been a little claustrophobic at times. If it''s a close friend I don''t mind, but total strangers need to back away, Lol!!

Do you remember when you got your first new shiny car? Probably like the rest of us, you freaked out when you noticed the first scratch on it. You''re probably going through the same thing with your ring.

Other than enclosing your hand in a glass box so that nothing will come in contact with it, there''s really nothing you can do. It''s a ring and it''s meant to be worn on your hand - it''s going to get dirty and it will knock and bump into things and you will scratch the gold/platinum. Take a chill pill and don''t worry so much about it.

No need to freak out unless the actual diamond falls out

yeah, make sure you have some cleaning solution handy and make them clean your ring.

I understand your concern from a "personal space" point of view, but as for fingerprints on the top of your stone, they really will come off if you just rub the darn thing on your shirt. So I say, appreciate the admiring fawning, give the ring a little wipe afterwards, and don''t worry about it.

I use to tell the people who''d like to hold or try my ring that I''m superstitious and that it will bring me bad luck if somebody else puts it on.
I''m not superstitious, but if somebody does touch my diamonds at work, I go to the toilets, wash my hands and diamonds with liquid soap and dry the diamonds with toilet paper...

When I first got my e-ring, I got the usual oohs and aahs from everyone. I could tell that so many people wanted to try it on but were too afraid to ask....they were worried that I would turn into Bridezilla and tear the house down rather than let anyone else try on MY ring! So when I showed my ring around, I asked if those who admired it (friends and colleagues - not strangers though) if they wanted to try it on. Most women jumped at the chance and I loved the fact that they admired it so much they wanted to try it on. If people get so worried about this sort of stuff, I shudder to think about what other things they get anal about (lol)

Please don''t let em touch it

Thanks to those of you who understand.

Sparkster - I was engaged 15 years ago and I couldn''t care less who touches my car

(definitely not anal in that department)

Don''t get me wrong - I appreciate the interest in my ring but I just don''t want my ring getting fingerprinted

haha this is so true...esp that people put their finger SMACK DAB on the middle of the table as they turn the ring this way and that. I itch to pull away but instead I just console myself by madly polishing the stone on my pants or top.

It's like people who want to touch pregnant women's bellies...they must touch and manhandle the shiny, sparkly diamond!

Edited to add....I didn't read the whole thread before I posted, so its hilarious that I also noted it was like touching a pregnant belly!!! I just noticed others did too!

Mara:

I am glad it is not just me that cringes when her diamond is used as a joystick... lol
