It's about to show up

I totally see it now. The gap between the halo and the center and the gaps between the halo stones.

I don't have any new advice than what others have posted. But I just wanted to chime in and tell you that I agree that it does have a lot more metal than you wanted.

I can definitely see what you mean, I would want that changed as well. I think that you've already answered this, but I can't remember your response, why was it that you decided to go custom instead of purchasing the inspiration ring?

The answer is two-fold. First, the inspiration that you see in the pics was tried on with a 1ct and would've had to be remade to fit the 1.5ct that's in there now. And second, I wanted to go with someone who has a proven reputation for quality settings with a lot of melee stones.

I am still a bit disappointed that I will have to bring up this topic with the gf. It certainly would've been nice to just get the design that we agreed on. But it is what it is and I don't want to put my plans off because of something that was out of my control.

I agree, I wouldn't want to put it off any longer either. It feels as though you've been working on this forever, I'm sure it feels longer to you. ;)) I didn't realize that the inspiration ring was a custom piece and that you couldn't simply order another to fit your center stone. It makes sense now. :)) Are you happy with the scalloped effect the ring? To *me* it seems that it wasn't achieved to the same level as your inspiration ring, but it's really hard to tell from photos alone. It's a beautiful ring, and I'm sure that your gf will love it, changes or no changes. :))

It turned out to be a beautiful ring! Hopefully she'll love it!

While I might be able to wait a little longer, thanksgiving, her birthday, and our trip can't :). The scalloped look is also a bit lacking (though certainly not as big of an issue as the gap). During the design process we discussed that the halo stones would protrude beyond the outline of the metal portion of the halo. However, this isn't really the case with the final product. While the halo may "look" scalloped, it's more due to the perception of the halo stones on a darker background created by the metal curves and folds.

It is a beautiful ring but I can see what you are talking about. I would definitely have them redo the ring the way you want it. I'm sorry about the ring and for you having to possibly put off the proposal. I hope you can get it all worked out soon.

I would have that re-done. It would bug the ever loving heck out of me. Fortunately, they've already said they would.

Congratulations on your engagement.

Focus on the engagement and congratulations!!! This moment will be very special! :appl:

Fix it after and dont let it stress you.. it can be fixed.. ;))

I reread all your previous threads and this is how I feel.
Your ring needs to be redone. It would drive me insane knowing that I specified exactly what I wanted but didn't get it in the final product. I would go ahead with the proposal but talk to my SO, let SO know what happened. Even if SO says its ok, I would still send the ring back and get it fixed. It would bother me forever. Yes, it's a hassle and yes, it's super annoying but it has to be done. At least in my eyes. Because I would always know that the ring that I painstakingly designed and paid for was NOT up to par.

Agreed with the general sentiment here. It is a gorgeous ring but since it is clearly not what you expected, I wouldn't feel bad sending it back, especially after they already offered to fix it. Good luck with the proposal, enjoy your trip, and hopefully your/her ring can be sent to be fixed soon!

Yeah, I completely agree with you. Take some time enjoy the proposal and engagement and then when you're ready and have a clear mind, you can jump back into the re-do. I'm sure it will come together. In the meantime, you may want to consider saving additional photos that you see that are similar to the look that you are trying to achieve. I'm not suggesting that this happened to you, but I know for me, when I see what I like I KNOW it, even though I may never have been able to explain it. A pictures worth a thousand words and all that....anyway couldn't hurt to make it painfully clear this time with as many photos and verbal cues as possible. I'd hate for the second experience to be as stressful as the first was for you. I'm looking forward to seeing where this all goes, the engagement and the re-make, so keep us posted! =)

I would propose with the ring....and see how she felt about it. I would personally want to see it, before any rework was done.

There's a very strong chance she will absolutely love it! Give her the option.

I have a feeling when she puts this on her finger she's not going to want to take it off.

I agree, I know I wouldn't

I can't wait to hear what happens, and enjoy your trip... so exciting!

Hi everyone,

I am back from an absolutely awesome trip to Antigua, hence no updates up until now. The proposal went off without a hitch and it was exactly what I was going for. I am glad to say I am now engaged to a wonderful girl!

Now onto the ring. As some of you guessed, she is very excited, but we did decide that we are going to try to bring it closer to the design seen in the CADs. Although she thought the ring was gorgeous for what it was and she loved the workmanship, the tighter halo, the lack of a large gap between the halo stones and the center, and a more scalloped look were all the features that she really fell in love with from the get-go. Having now seen the CADs, she thought that the last set was pretty much exactly what she would've hoped to see in the ring. In the end, I am very glad that she wants to have it redone since I really do want her to have not just a nice ring, but a nice ring that is exactly what she wants.

JDNJ: Sorry for not responding any sooner. Yes the ring was done via ERD and there may be a few things worth considering when working with them on a custom design. I don't think this board has a PM feature, but feel free to PM me over on http://www.clublexus.com/forums/. I have the same name on there.

Congrats on your engagement! I'm glad you are going ahead and getting the ring fixed :)

I saw the ring before I read your specific comments and it was blinding and gorgeous. Then I read the comments. What you received is different, but still beautiful. Positives about the current setting is that it looks like it would be easier to clean, and also less likely to have problems with diamonds touching diamonds. But if you are paying for custom, I understand wanting to get close to the vision. I'm not an expert, but I guess I would be concerned with them messing with the halo without completely redoing it, what that would do to the integrity of the setting. So just be warned, some people have posted on the forum, where a custom job was not as expected, and it took multiple redos, never to be exactly what they wanted. I am HOPING for you it is a simple fix, and either way the jeweler would be clear with you what kind of job this would be (easy or difficult).
