After a year of carefully reading this forum, watching the inventories of all the recommended dealers, having several top lapidaries search for me and buying a few close-but-not-"the one" stones, I finally have found my dream blue sapphire!
It's a 2.55 ct round blue heated sapphire from Dana at Master Cut Gems.
Originally I was searching for an 8-9mm round, bright blue, lighter but very well saturated stone for my budget of $5,000. I knew it was ridiculous to begin a search with such strict parameters but I was willing to look for a long time and to be flexible on the criteria if needed. After looking at a few stones in person that were medium-light I realized that I couldn't get the saturation I wanted in that tone without spending way more than feasible. So I took a chance on a stone that was a more traditional royal blue color. And it makes my heart sing! I really thought I wanted to go lighter but this stone is so alive, so electric - I love it.
Dana was amazing at working with my budget, and while I went over my original budget, he offered me a great discount off the list price. Thank you Dana!
The vendor's pictures are attached and then a few of mine. My pictures are taken quickly in overcast light with my iPhone. And the stone is covered with prints. I promise more delicious pictures with a clean stone, a proper camera and sunlight soon!
My plan is to set it in the Whiteflash Butterflies setting a la Yssie's three stone. I will probably start a new thread about setting the stone.
While I have decided to keep this stone, I welcome honest opinions. I have thick skin and would love to learn even more about this rock I plan to wear every day forever!
